Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: jacqui.c Date: 01 Mar 09 - 09:04 AM You were going to buy Gordon Bok? I presume you opted for the guitar because it was cheaper. jacqui.c - who would be heading for the cellar if she had the energy. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 01 Mar 09 - 07:39 AM This is not one of my best, the 12 string guitar was new and it resented the fact that I bought it instead of Gordon Bok. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: Dan Schatz Date: 15 Jan 09 - 08:28 PM Well, yes, I know that. But give the kid a break; he's only 1 and a half! (That's also why it took me a minute....) Of course, he could have been asking for a song by Abba. But I don't think so. Dan |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 15 Jan 09 - 07:50 PM By the way, Dan, in Maine, harbor is pronounced, hahbah. |

Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: Dan Schatz Date: 14 Jan 09 - 10:46 AM My son still loves this video. Last night I showed it to him as a way of getting him to drink his bedtime milk (you parent your way and I'll parent mine) and after drinking the milk, he asked for "More Kendall." This morning he went right to my computer and said, "Kendall?" After watching the video through he stayed on my lap and said, "Habba!" Huh? "Habba. Habba? Habba!" And then it hit me. Dan |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 28 Dec 08 - 09:00 AM Amos has offered to make a copy for me. I expect he is more reliable than they are. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: maeve Date: 28 Dec 08 - 06:29 AM Aw. that's great, Kendall. You should have a copy, and they should have the story. I am eager to see the video clip and hope they leave it there for a while. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 27 Dec 08 - 04:16 PM I sent an e mail to the producer of that clip to advise them that the song is not about the Cape Elizabeth Light, but rather a hymn. They responded with "What is the real story"? and would I like a DVD of it? |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 27 Dec 08 - 12:29 PM I always try to let the song have center stage, so to speak. Never been one to draw attention to myself. I'm just the conductor, and it's not mine to claim, only to pass along to someone who might like it. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: Charmion Date: 27 Dec 08 - 12:11 PM It worked for me today. Lovely, unaffected performance of a very fine song. Thanks, Kendall, for doing it, and thanks to Dan for drawing our attention to it. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 27 Dec 08 - 08:52 AM Thanks Luv. It's always a case of mixed emotions, but I keep telling myself that it's better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.Same idea. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 27 Dec 08 - 08:32 AM It's lovely, Kendall. Not to worry- I'm sure you'll get a copy from some wise Catter. But what a lovely thing it was to watch you sing! |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 27 Dec 08 - 07:40 AM OK, it's back. Now, does anyone know how to record this? I have a DVD recorder on my computer. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 27 Dec 08 - 06:41 AM Not for me. I get the picture but there is no movement and the audio jumps around like a fart in a mitten. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: Dan Schatz Date: 26 Dec 08 - 08:25 PM So eager to watch videos of himself.... It's working again now. I did say it was unreliable. Dan |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 26 Dec 08 - 04:16 PM NOW THE DAMN THING WONT WORK ANYMORE. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 21 Dec 08 - 08:10 AM Just download Flash player. It's free and it only takes a few minutes. It solved the problem for me. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: Dan Schatz Date: 20 Dec 08 - 09:21 AM Jack, if you PM Amos he'll help you. Dan |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: GUEST,Tom Bliss Date: 20 Dec 08 - 05:06 AM I'm on Firefox 3 and MacOS 10.4.11 too Jack. Straight to the video clip for me. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: GUEST,Jack Campin Date: 20 Dec 08 - 04:57 AM It doesn't get any better. All I could see was the application form in my home machine (Firefox 3 on MacOS 10.4.11) - on this one (Firefox 2 on Windows 2000 Pro) it crashes the browser. |

Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: Dan Schatz Date: 19 Dec 08 - 09:47 PM It comes from a sermon illustration by the evangelist Dwight L. Moody. Ed Reese, in his biographical sketch of Philip Bliss: "One time Mr. Moody was telling the story of a shipwreck in one of his messages. On a dark stormy night, a large passenger boat cautiously edged toward the Cleveland harbor. The pilot knew that he could only find the harbor channel by keeping two lower shore lights in line with the main beacon. "Are you sure this is Cleveland?" asked the captain. "Quite sure, Sir," replied the pilot. "Where are the lower lights?" he asked. "Gone out, Sir!" was the reply. The pilot turned the wheel, but in the darkness, he missed the channel. The boat crashed on the rocks and many lives were lost that night. Mr. Moody's closing words were, "Brethren, the Master will take care of the great lighthouse; let us keep the lower lights burning." At the next meeting with Mr. Moody, Mr. Bliss sang this song... Let the Lower Lights Be Burning. It was published in 1874. It is said that this was the favorite hymn of Billy Sunday." Dan |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 19 Dec 08 - 09:35 PM All I did was hit the link that Dan provided and up it came. I sent an email to thoughtequity and asked them if I could share this and they said yes. They said go to: www.thoughtequity.com/video/clip/5112799626_105.do I had to download Flash Player to get it running right. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: Jack Campin Date: 19 Dec 08 - 08:23 PM Everybody's talking as if you could just download it - I got some scary application form in legalese without even an indication of prices, and no obvious download link. What's the trick? |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: kendall Date: 19 Dec 08 - 08:08 PM I was told that that song was written by a lighthouse keeper on one of the great lakes. Is that what you were told? I understand there is another version which I have not heard. |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: Dan Schatz Date: 19 Dec 08 - 08:07 PM Correction - I know the scary form exists. The link for me goes straight to the video clip. Dan |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: Dan Schatz Date: 19 Dec 08 - 07:51 PM It still works for me, Jack. I know the scary form is there - Kendall wrote them and made double sure it was okay to post the link. Kendall writes: "I would love to pass along anything that the younger generation wants to use." We'll take whatever you got. Even songs and stories! Dan |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: Jack Campin Date: 19 Dec 08 - 07:47 PM Dan, you didn't post a link to the video itself, but to a deeply scary form for applying to licence it for umpteen different purposes, with not even a price in sight (I guess if you have to ask you can't afford it). Does everybody else who's posted here have a direct debit set up with those guys? |
Subject: RE: Kendall Morse web video From: GUEST,Tom Bliss Date: 19 Dec 08 - 06:50 PM Lovely hymn and very nicely sung - thank you Kendall. Written of course by my namesake and possibly kinsman (though I've not been able to establish the link yet) Philip Paul Bliss, who also wrote Pull for The Shore, and many other greats. He had a brave and tragic death. Must write a song about him one day. PP Bliss Tom Bliss |
