Iron Chef, S. Portland.

I love brussels sprouts and cauliflower, which is great if you add a smidge of nutmeg. (It's even better with a cheese/cream sauce or garlic and a lot of butter, but dairy is why I'm on this diet.)

Well - the chef himself does not log on to Mudcat so his wife will pass all these compliments along. How could you NOT make cauliflower fabulous -- I LOVE VEGETABLES!!!!!!! Dani - if you can beat Tom's brussell sprouts then you are a good cook.....they are to die for......
See most everyone on Saturday.......

Ooh! Beef stew! Yum!

As for the fat in food, may I recommend an outside job in winter? I've lost weight while eating more, go figure.

Sorry I can't be there. Haven't seen Joe Stead in years. I met him at the Philadelphia Folk Festival in the early 70s, I think he was staying down there for a while. He probably won't remember me, but if you could say hello for me, I'd appreciate it.

Sounds like you'll have fun.

John

Me, too, on the veggies -- especially cauliflower, broccoli, brussel's sprouts, asparagas...fava beans, chickpeas, onions, carrots, parsnips, turnips and rutabega. Oh, and kolrabi -- though not many people even know what it is. And I LIKE zucchini! (Fried with onions, zucchini bread, etcet etcet.) Not crazy about okra except pickled, but I can't think of anything I don't like.

So how come every salad and vegetable that gets served at these "events" ends up in leftover containers while the ice cream, cake, and double fried stuff disappears?

Roasted vegetables seem to go pretty well. I'll do some of those for Chance and Suzette.

Hi Mary
Justine & I are hoping to make it up after she "hopefully" finishes work in time to get there. I'll try & pick up something to bring along the way. We don't wanna come in one arm as long as the other.
But we won't know until later in the day.
Are we OK?

Barry

Great, Barry! I expect we have too much food so don't worry about bringing anything. I don't have any diet soda for you, though. Damn! Now I have to drag out the tea tables again.

Joe certainly did a great job, and he filled the room with his deep bass voice. I bet they heard him across the street!

I left at 11 pm and folks were just getting warmed up for singing.

Great food as usual and great company.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Another great evening. Joe is a treasure - he kept the whole room in fits of laughter for most of the evening. His lovely wife, Nora, tried to keep him somewhat in line, but, fortunately, was not too successful in that regard. Joe seemed very pleased with the fact that the whole room joined in the choruses.

The after concert singaround was amazing, lots of energy and it was still going pretty well when I left about 1.15.

This sort of event is well worth the time and effort that goes into making it happen.

Glad it was a fun night! Wish I could have been there with you.

I forgot to mention my favorite part of his night in Durham: when he whipped out a camera to take a picture to prove he had an audience : )

My post disappeared...
Joann and I were laughing ourselves to tears. Joe is a very humourous character. His music is wonderful - and yes we did enjoy the choruses.
Nora is a pleasure - and a non-morning person like me.
To bed at 3:15 and up at 8AM. I am too old to be having this much fun.
There was a wealth of music after the concert as well. It has been too long.

many thanks to Joe and Nora for a memorable evening.

By the way, did no one else notice that Joe is Micca only bigger?????? Fortunately, he kept his clothes on.

I reckon that Joe and Micca were twins, separated at birth, but Joe got about 50% of what should have been Micca......

I'm finally starting to believe I'll live. Nasty migraine, and I didn't even drink much (less than a glass of wine and a taste of Lagavulin. You HAVE to (at least) taste 18 year-old single malt.

So now I'm not feeling like hammered dog crap, I've managed to eat something, it's a beautiful day out, AND I have a couple new CDs to enjoy.!

I gotta say Joe just owns the stage, even if it's a house concert and there's no stage. He can be hilarious and turn around and sing a beautiful, evocative piece of aural poetry. Plus, his mandojobanjolin is really cool.

Joe certinally is a performer & entertainer par excellence.
His performance was engaging, his songs refreshing & his babbling delighful. I'm very happy to have had the chance to be tickled to death by this man.

Ugh. I should have called in sick to work this AM, stayed later last night and joined you all for breakfast. Sigh. Not that it was a bad day at work, it just started too early. But I did get to listen to my new CD on the way to work.
