Subject: RE: Young people's folk in London March 21 From: treewind Date: 13 Jun 09 - 07:50 AM We had the pleasure of meeting Katie and Helen last night - they did a support spot for us at "The Goose is Out" in Dulwich and told us about their new club and it sounds wonderful. It's also very reassuring to know that a new generation of people (or at least some of them) are so knocked out by hearing traditional music for the first time, without any warning or preparation, and want to get involved and learn everything they can about it. They did a smashing song set too - all unaccompanied vocal harmony, two lovely voices, a great sense of humour and when they can sing songs like The Bonny Black Hare without giggling they'll be ready for prime time! We also discovered that we've already met Katie's dad who is famous in an unrelated sector of the folk scene but I won't give the game away... Anahata |

We would have loved to have been there and we will certainly drop in again as soon as we can. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit as the opening guests in February - it was a RIOT! This is a brand new club destined for success because it is clearly run on passion and enthusiasm as well as clued - in organisational nouse and respect for the musical genre. I would urge anyone within striking distance not to miss the very next opportunity to visit this vibrant new folk venue - you will be so glad you did...the young and lovely Katie and Helen, I know, will be there to offer you a warm welcome. |
Subject: Young people's folk in London March 21 From: greg stephens Date: 21 Mar 09 - 06:09 AM The Kit and Cutter Folk Club is an extraordinary phenomenon. Firstly it's a totally new folk club (started a month ago). Secondly, it is run by two Young People. What is not extraordinary is that tonight, March 21, in the Deptford Arms, Deptford , they are putting on the Boat Band, the very outfit designed to appeal to the young at heart. So, amidst the nu-folk, acid folk, twisted folk, psych-folk, weird folk and psionic pipe detector folk, you can be assured of a good dollop of Old Folk tonight. And, for the education of any old fogeys who come, you can see what the younger generation are up to, as there will be a plethora of floorspots/support. Be there, or be seriously missing some fun. |
