Subject: BS: I lost my Cat today From: olddude Date: 30 Mar 09 - 08:08 PM I work at my office by myself except for my office cats Wilma and Betty ... well Betty took off a couple of weeks ago. I looked everywhere talked to everyone. Well my neighbor found my cat dead under his front porch. I guess a car must have hit her and she went under there and didn't make it ... animals have a way of breaking a persons heart every few years don't they! |

Subject: RE: BS: I lost my Cat today From: catspaw49 Date: 30 Mar 09 - 10:49 PM Sorry my friend.....We have 5 and we're just animal kind of people so every loss just kills us here............The group we have now is just wonderful together and very diverse in personality. Ya' know, Karen and I still cry over the thought of a red point oriental that was so very special........Someone said awhile back (after telling a story about him), "Gee.......When did he die?". Then she looked at us like we were complete fools when Karen said, "Oh, about 18 years ago." They are part of us and our family so we know how you feel......as does kat, and Sinsull and Kendall and EVERYONE else on this thread. If you love your pets, you're in good company on Mudcat. Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: I lost my Cat today From: katlaughing Date: 30 Mar 09 - 10:56 PM Thanks, Spaw, couldn't've said it better m'self. Seriously...they are so much a part of our lives/family. That's one reason why mine never go out free to roam; they have a chicken coop out my office window with a balcony, scratching ramp, grass and a small tree. They love it and I know they will always be safe. I know some folks don't agree with that, but since 1983 my heart just can't take losing one any other way except the expected old age, disease, etc. {{{{{{DAN & Wilma))))) kat, trystan, kipling, and merlee-the dog |

Subject: RE: BS: I lost my Cat today From: Genie Date: 30 Mar 09 - 11:02 PM Spaw's right, and so are you, Old Dude. Pets, like anyone else we love, have a way of breaking our hearts every now and then. But the loving is worth it. I'm in the process of removing the pussy willow bush ... er, tree that was initially planted over the grave of my beloved classic silver tabby, who died as mysteriously as your kitty did. Just showed up dead at the side of my house one summer morning, after begging to go out the night before when it was a sweltering 90 degrees - no sign of trauma, and she was only 10. That bush/tree also has my Minnie Meowse, whose body just gave out at age 17, buried there. I grieved as much for the one who died of "old age" as for the one who was taken so suddenly. It grieves me to hear of the passing of your sweet Betsy too, especially that you had to go through that week of wondering and worrying. I'm glad you had her companionship and "tech consulting services" for as long as you did, though. Grisabella, my medium longhair tortie, also sends her condolences. Genie |

Subject: RE: BS: I lost my Cat today From: olddude Date: 30 Mar 09 - 11:25 PM Thanks folks this was a really hard day ... many can't understand ... when I lost my old Lab 7 years ago it still makes me cry when I see a picture of my old dog. Betty would go outside from time to time but would always stay put. They were both inside cats but would go out on the porch when the weather was nice. Don't know why she went far enough to go on the road ... who knows |

Subject: RE: BS: I lost my Cat today From: michaelr Date: 30 Mar 09 - 11:46 PM I know how you feel... I came home from work a couple of weeks ago and found our Stella dead. No obvious reason; she seems to have just expired. She was only 11. That cat used to knock on me with her paw when she wanted attention. Gads, I miss her! Cheers, Michael |
|
Subject: RE: BS: I lost my Cat today From: katlaughing Date: 31 Mar 09 - 12:06 AM Ah, sorry, I didn't mean to imply I can stand it when they die of old age...I am just as heartbroken then as to lose them to traffic, etc. Also, Dan, you never know. I had a calico, Najuni, who went out with my brother and his cats, everyday. They stayed right by the house with him watching them. He turned away for a split second and she was gone. We looked everywhere and finally, based on some "sightings" in the neighbourhood, we think she was chased by a dog into the road and killed before we even realised she was gone. Never did find her, but someone who knew her told us they were sure it was her that they saw on the road and later being carried about by the dog in question. My condolences on your loss, darlin'. kat |

Subject: RE: BS: I lost my Cat today From: Genie Date: 31 Mar 09 - 12:28 AM michael r, Grisabella does the same thing your Stella did when she wants attention. She taps me -- usually on the cheek or forehead if I'm in bed -- with her paw when she wants me to pet her. So sad Stella died so young. OldDude, I know what you mean about cats usually hanging out near home. Grisabella usually doesn't go anywhere except to a couple of adjacent yards when she goes out and she's often sitting on my porch after she's gone and peed in the yard. But one evening, when I was trying to get her back in before dark, she kept avoiding me and actually crossed a very busy street about a bock from the house, right in front of me! That's the sort of thing that can give you a heart attack (and is a main reason I don't let her out much in good weather, especially in the late afternoon). Sometimes cats are pretty good at avoiding traffic, but some cars go way too fast through residential neighborhoods. Sadly, animals sometimes hide when they are wounded or ill, as though they just want to be alone while they die. That can mean they die a slow death instead of either possibly being saved by medical help or at least being euthanized. I hope Betty did not linger in pain. |

Subject: RE: BS: I lost my Cat today From: Neil D Date: 31 Mar 09 - 12:53 AM It's not only like losing a family member, it IS losing a family member and you have my deepest sympathy. I wish mere words could give the comfort that only time can provide. |

Subject: RE: BS: I lost my Cat today From: Genie Date: 31 Mar 09 - 12:59 AM You're right, Neil. I hate it when people say things like "It was only an animal." Our companion animals, as you say, ARE family members. |

Subject: RE: BS: I lost my Cat today From: Anne Lister Date: 31 Mar 09 - 02:53 AM So sorry to hear this ...we, too, have grieved for the loss of a dear friend in feline form and I'm still more than likely to shed tears when talking of her death. Our current cat, Persia, will tap us with her paw for attention as well as using all manner of other communicative techniques to let us know what she wants. She is absolutely a member of the family and the complete opposite to the "stand-offish" reputation that some cats have. There's no way to shorten the grieving process (nor should there be) but we hope you can take comfort in the fact that whatever happened, happened quickly for your Cat. Anne |

Subject: RE: BS: I lost my Cat today From: Becca72 Date: 31 Mar 09 - 07:21 AM I'm so very sorry for your loss, old dude. Our pets hold a very special place in our hearts and it is horrible when they go. I still get teary about the loss of my little calico, Mara Jade and it's been 3 years since she died. But I also have some really great memories of the 13 years we spent together. |

Subject: RE: BS: I lost my Cat today From: Bryn Pugh Date: 31 Mar 09 - 09:44 AM Truly sorry to hear this, Olddude. This comes with our heartfelt sympathy. We have two, Maisie and Smutts, and they have twined themselves round our hearts. Maise is white and tortie, (US ) calico, I think) and Smutts is tortie and white. It might sound trite to say this, but it won't always hurt like this. Love and Blessings, Erica and Bryn |

Subject: RE: BS: I lost my Cat today From: Stilly River Sage Date: 31 Mar 09 - 05:38 PM We lost our silly sweet calico in late January; I hitched that story onto an ongoing thread. We had two cats, it was the young "fat and sassy" one we lost, so now it's the old healthy curmudgeon here alone, and he is very needy these days. We never actually saw them do that much together, except sleep, but I think it is just the idea that the other was around that kept them both happy. I'd kind of like to be free of cathair for a while at some point, so I'm resisting going through the agony of introducing a new cat into the household. I have thought about it, but I'm still resisting it. That said, we've had some great cats over the years. It's really tough to lose them. SRS |
