It looks like Palin is reving up to help Lisa Merkowski(sp?), so the will put the Republican women against the male Democrat in the Senate.

I don't understand, Rig. In what way is Palin "helping" Murkowski? At this point, Palin is in such deep doo doo in her own state she is in no shape to help anyone else.

And the male Republican representative in the House has come out to help the "male Democrat in the Senate".

There was a headline on Yahoo yesterday that Palin was preparing to raise money for Murkowski, so it looks like the battle of the sexes--or genders if you'd rather. Traditional party lines have been blured.

They are both Republicans, of course; evidently Palin wants to reassure Murkowski that she's not going to go after Murkowski's Senate seat. (Not that that would worry Murkowski much.)

Yes, but Ebbie seemed to indicate that the Republican Congressman was supporting the Democratic Senator. I think that was the issue.

That Guest was me. My cookie crumbled.

Don Young, the Republican Representative, supports the Democratic view that Senator Mark Begich should not resign his new seat because of 'Uncle Ted's' misfortune. I don't know how Young feels about Begich further than that.

This is an uncharacteristically difficult thread to follow.

That may be my fault, heric. I tend to veer and lurch in conversation.

Although it's not my doing that 'buffoon' was used in connection with Alaska politics. (I do like 'bouffant buffoon' though!) Buffoon has a connotation to me that is applicable only in fairly specific cases and I don't think that it qualifies in Alaska.

I suppose the point is, the word "buffoon" relates well to the concept of the modern day American politician. Following that rationale, of course, if Alaska ended up without any buffoons at all, there wouldn't be anyone out there--or up there--to run for public office.

Rig, I tend to agree with you, that politicians are pretty much all buffoons! I think the better attempt to hide that fact, while running, the more 'electable' they are....oh, with one exception...Nancy Pelosi...she's an out front, flaming buffoon, and the morons up near San Francisco, keep electing her...It defies gravity!

Rig, I will never understand you. Why are you slinging mud at Senator Begich? You know nothing about him. I have never met him but he has a good reputation in Alaska, and reputations count in a place as small as Alaska, population-wise.

So just knock it off. It ain't cute.

Why else would Bush attorneys botch the prosecution so badly that Stevens was convicted when they certainly would have known their misdeeds would come to light in short order.

Why did the Bush handlers want to get rid of Stevens?

Actually, all I have are questions. If we were looking for conspiracies, one could be that somebody like George Soros, who participated so completely in getting Obama elected, wanted to be sure he had a friendly Congress, so he bought the prosecution in the Stevens case to ensure the outcome of the election. Of course, Soros wasn't the only well heeled Democratic Obama backer, so...

Good god, Rig. You've got theories to fit either - and both -
side(s) of the aisle. Bit cynical, wouldn't you say?

'Twould be seemly if you came up with a reasonable rationale.

Well, the other rationale--the prosecution blew the case intentionally so there would be good grounds for appeal--is somebody else's theory. I didn't like it, but didn't want it go get left out.

It's hard to imagine that the prosecution did what they did for no reason. That would be the hardest theory to believe of all.
