If it's true that centre-court tickets for the men's final were changing hands at £8,000 upwards because of the Murray factor, then there will be a lot of wealthy but disappointed spectators at Wimbledon tomorrow. Serves them right for paying such inflated prices to the touts!

I was disappointed with the match. Murray has glimpses of tennis genius but then seems to tail off whereas Roddick was consistently good throughout and deserved his win.

Roddicks serving was top class and IMHO, that was the difference.
I thought Murray played really well, and I always got the feeling he could pull it back and win. He is a born fighter and at 22, I don't think it will be long before he wins Wimbledon

The scoring system is, despite the lines below, a strength of tennis, I think, Bonzo - because it produces numerous "big points" in a match. (And that's probably also why table-tennis games are now first to 11 rather than 21 - more big points.)

That reminds me of the time I got up early in the morning to watch the rematch of Cassius Clay and Sonny Liston for the world heavyweight boxing championship.
I had a bet with somebody at work, that Liston would beat Clay. The bet was £15 which was a lot of dosh in those days, reducing by a £1 for each round.
Anyway, I got up, put the telly on and the match was just starting. I had put the kettle on for a cup of tea. When I came back with my tea, the match was over as Clay knocked Liston out in the first round.
So not only did I lose my sleep, but lost £15 and never saw the match live.
I never forgave Clay for that.

I've always thought that there is a slight hint of Aspbergers about Andy Murray. I am not saying this at all in a disparaging way at all but I have an autistic son, and some of AM's mannerisms are a bit reminiscent.

Murray Mound doesn't have the same ring to it as Henman Hill, but I suspect that, barring injury, Andy Murray may well get to the finals which Tim never did. Latest weather forecast doesn't look too bad for the week, but this being Wimbledon week things could go downhill pretty quickly. Still, with a new roof over the centre court there will be no excuse for Sir Cliff to burst into song this year so the money is well spent!

I think it stems, Ebbie, from coaches telling youngsters to exhale as they strike the ball - but, in my opinion, this may be okay for golf e.g., but not rallying tennis where players should catch their breath whenever they can; the exception, of course, is serving, where folks have time to perform what is an awkward motion that would make Marcel Marceau grunt, at least a bit! Ha. I've heard LOTS of grunts coming from the males at Wimbledon. One just last week. It's kind of distracting but I figger that they're the ones putting out the effort, not I, so I can live with it.

By the way, judging by when they do speak, the players don't appear to be miked so why are the grunts so audible? Just how loud are they??

How does one classify a 'Scot'?
Harold Mahoney was born in Edinbugh, but he's listed as being Irish.
However, one can argue that 'Scots' were originally from Ireland anyway!

2001 got somewhat cheeky,
    So, on my T.V., I was pleased to see
Old-fashioned etiquette about the net...
