I have often fancied trying nettles but never summoned up the nerve. I believe only the youngest tenderest leaves are suitable - but hell there are lots of nettles there - and if it is eaten at evening we will be too pissed to know if it hurt until next morning!

(Which is why "Ride on" sometimes sounds a bit like that anyway!)

"Imagine the sound of nettle stung tongues singing Ride On"

Ahh, I found the traditional nettle-stung version in the dhadhabhash, the official lyrics go:

"Whahd Whon! (Whahhhhhd Whon!)
Ah Chwood Yheva Gah Wivoooh,
Ah Eehvvah Mhucke Ahh Whanded Thooo!

There a variety of stinging nettle in India that is closely related to our Nettle but its sting is described to be I quote#
" like a Red hot poker going into you" This Nettle accounts for several fatalities a year.
The Nettle is also relatated to the Cannabis plant and when dried out has a uncanny resemblence to Weed.
I must admit I have never been tempted to roll up a nettle.

"Also Nettles are nice boiled has a vegtable side dish"

Yes, this I can vouch for (though the Pink Nettle Tea, sound like definitely one to do!) as my awld fella used to do the Richard Maybe thing and loved to gather Nettles to stir fry and bung in rice etceteras.

One day (so my Mam told me) the lads didn't cook 'em well enough though, and ended up with black stung tongues, stuck out all day, till the stinging cooled off! So be warned!

I made some Nettle tea today and strongly recomend it.Its lovely and you can fascinate young children with it because if you do it correctly and add lemopn to it.
It changes colour from dark Green to light pink and it lovely with Honey. Its full of Iron and is very good for your liver.(hence I have been drinking no end of it)

I have mastered the art of making it and I ,ll make some at Knockers.
Also Nettles are nice boiled has a vegtable side dish like one would boilED Cabbage and it taste is quite similar to Kale. I will let you know when I make it(I,ll put a banner up)only joking) so you can sample it if one wishs to.

Well it seems that the weather is with us this September . If one can go on what the Met says.
I imagine Richards still in a field somewhere hence we have had no updates from the Knockholt folk forecaster?
I am looking forward to the event and just want to come and enjoy it and have fun.
Looking forward to seeing everyone and pointing out to everyone the Giant women of Knockholt they are not a fragment of my imagination or a Fetish, they exist..
I am at work tonight Sunday and will finish wednesday morning.

I will arrive at the field has and when and due to the fact the Tally Ho may well be open by the time I step off the bus then I wont be able to walk on by without a pint.
REMEMBER
I understand we are collecting the meat wednesday from Sevenoaks
Pierre

Having read some of RB's comments previously posted elsewhere (as re-posted here by Ken below) I feel they were indeed rather inappropriate, and it's not the kind of thing that I'd advocate, but IMO those comments were also quite obviously meant without seriousness, and were not genuinely proposing any form of Mob Rool or violence.

It's a bummer that this subject was ever raised here in the first place, and equally unfortunate that RB's (not very helpful admittedly, but equally totally throwaway IMO) comments posted elsewhere, have now been dragged onto here too (instead of such personal grievances having been dealt with privately). But for what it's worth, I really don't believe RB was on a personal mission of vendetta in this matter regards Knockholt, for enough of us already independently supported the (IMO laudable) principles of the FaF campaign (as indeed I will continue to do).

So, let those who wish to support FaF, do so. Let those who choose to support the BNP, do so likewise. And let those who want to be fecked off, be fecked off - it's still a free fecking country after all! But no-body's democratic rights or freedoms have been restricted, and there's no Mob bar Folkmob.

Hi folks to answer a query from a earlier posting.
My son Gavin has decided to give this knockholt a miss. It was to be his first knockholt .
Last weekend when he came to stay with me he was asking endless questions and was
quite excited about he whole thing.

He having read this thread, phoned me up this morning and said dad I think I will give Knockholt a miss this time and go in June next year. In the stead he has decided to go to paint ball with his friends. I did not push the issue because has a 19 year old I believe he should choose what he wants to do and above all be final about it.

The people who give me a lift to knockholt are also not going which means I shall now have to travel by public transport to get to the field which can be done and done many a time before but it will not enable me to get to the field early enough to make sure the Porta loos are placed where they should be and make sure the fire is ready for lighting for the Wednesday night . I doubt I will be at the field much before 1300hrs now.

Finally
Chrissey my Polish friend wants to come on the Saturday. But I have decided I am going to pack up and leave the field before the Saturday night starts for I have to go to work on the Sunday so I must get home in order to make that arrangement
So No chrissey wont be coming.

I like the idea of being tolerant. The reason I am a "recovering" Baptist, is because I found their intolerance of anyone who did not think and behave in prescribed way, repugnant.

I am surprised how easy it is for me to assimilate to mob mentality, however 'righteous' that mob might be. It is human nature to want society of others, to want to belong, but it must be tempered with what your mind, soul, . good conscience can live with. I try to maintain the "There but for the grace of (name your deity or not) go I" state of mind.

While I will not apologise for comments and replies I made re the BNP, I am heartily sorry to have caused hurt to individuals. I may be naive, but I will always hope individuals will reconsider their point of view regards the group they choose to associate with and examine the experiences and thoughts that brought them to that association.

Blessings to all including those who do not think the way I do. :0)

Slight issue with the technology there.

You said what you said, I heard what I heard, and self defence is no offence. As it happens my chainsaw and axes are brought every year, by request from others, to assist in log management.

I have contemporaneous notes of the events of last September = and witnesses, some in the same field right now.

Ken & Roberta - I'm hoping that in the spirit of tolerance that is Knockholt you will reconsider. In the democratic country we live in we are all allowed to think what we want, and at times be vocal and demonstrate that belief, and I am not being political here. My songs are mine, and I don't want them used for purposes I never intended them for - that's all. Nothing more, and nothing less. Let's all move forward now please, and enjoy ourselves in the wonderful weekend that's to come as we have all done in the past, in the spirit of tolerance that we should all have.
John Barden

I have not so far made comment on any of the posts I have seen so far on Mudcat but I think now I must after reading Richard Bridges post of 1 September 09 which I will come to later.

It is very regrettable to read such hysterical nonsense. First I need to apologise to Richard Bridge for playing my music too loud for him but let me correct him; it was not Metalica (I am not a fan); it was either Deja Vu by CSN&Y, Bayou Country by Credence Clearwater Revival or Desire by Bob Dylan or maybe even The Southern Harmony by the Black Crowes that was being played that day in September 2008.

What happened was that we arrived on the field and I turned up the music so I could hear it whilst setting up the tent, I did not think it was loud enough to carry to the other side of the field; it was not being played in total disregard of everyone else, maybe the wind was carrying it. Mick Ford came over and said someone was complaining about it so it was turned down. Richard Bridge could have approached me himself at the time or after and I would have said sorry but he never did.

That night in the marquee I was astonished to hear Richard Bridge launch a diatribe against "Chavs" or maybe it was "White Chavs" in which he proceeded to vilify a whole section of society, because, in my opinion, they have not been gifted with the same academic ability, educational opportunities or social upbringing as himself. Maybe the whole thing was clandestinely directed at me-I do not know.

The allegation of calling someone a "Diddy" is not correct. I am not familiar with the term Diddy or Dids and never said it. What Richard Bridge is referring to is the word "Pikey". What was said was not meant to be insulting or malicious. I innocently thought I was involved in a bit of light hearted banter with someone. The comment was said, as I believed, in a tongue in cheek jocular manner. I had no intention of it being anything other than that. It was never my intention of giving offense and had no idea that I had done so until after the June 2009 Knockholt when I first read the posts on Mudcat. At no time did Richard Bridge or anyone approach me about this in September 08 or June 09. I am truly sorry if this offended this person and I had hoped to make an apology and explain myself at Knockholt this September.

Had I really wanted to insult someone then I would have done it to the person, however I really am not the sort of person who does go around insulting people.

It is a shame that Richard Bridge could not have spoken to me about it but chose instead make the allegations public on the internet whilst giving me no chance of redress.

There is a person with whom I am acquainted who used to attend a folk ale to which I go.

Recently (ish) she has developed a relationship with a piece of scum on legs, and has even canvassed and stood for the BNP.

The scum and its spawn came very close to wrecking the folk ale - Mercedes with doors open and wireless blaring Metallica, homophobic remarks to a gay friend of mine, "Well you're all just a bunch of dids aren't you?" to a Romany participant (who scored well with the reply "When you can tell me what it means it may be worth discussing it with you").

I can't separate that behaviour from the person.

Richard Bridge as decided to act as Judge, jury and executioner. He has assumed much about me without ever speaking to me, he has presumed to tell everyone I am a BNP member although he has never been shown a BNP membership card by myself. He has even thought it appropriate to post theats of violence such as:

The BNP members with the Mercedes aren't coming are they?

Soddit, I'll bring my chainsaw and axes anyway...

Water, Lady Raffles? What do you want water for? I thought that pale liquid you drank was white wine.

(EDIT)
List: (of things to bring to Knockholt)

Kukri, Kris, and/or baseball bat in case the BNP turn up

With regards to Richard's post on 1st of September 2009 to Roberta; I hope he is not intimating that I was using the "P and N" words at Knockholt, if anyone does then it is a lie.

I can produce any number of black and asian people to testify to my character. I have a number of gay and lesbian friends and in the 1980's help nurse two gay friends whilst they were dying from Aids. I was also awarded a Royal Human Society award for risking my life whilst saving an African boy.

Roberta and I came along to Knockholt not as some sort BNP infiltration or right wing folk conspiracy but to listen to good music and to enjoy the company. I have not mentioned politics and have no wish to.

Whether I and Roberta are members of the BNP or not should not have been an issue and this nonsense should never have come to fruition.

What has happened is that Richard Bridge has out of his own personal spite decided to conduct a witch hunt against me for playing my CD player too loud and has attempted to rope in the rest of the Knockholt crowd against Roberta and myself under the Folk against Fascism banner. Royston was entirely right in suggesting keeping politics out of Knockholt. The whole thing has caused a lot of upset which was totally avoidable right from the start. I totally accept that my comment was wrong even though I had not meant it to be taken so and offer a full apology.

Ironically I found I enjoyed Richard's performances most of all and I was looking forward to hearing Richard Bridge again - even after reading his comments after the June Knockholt. Unfortunately I will not be there to see it, not because of threats of banners on the gate or tee shirts being worn or baseball bats but because the fun as now been taken from it for me. Hopefully Roberta will change her mind and go. It's been a sad thing to see this unfold and I don't bare any animosity to anyone, not even to Richard Bridge. I am not going to post any further comments on this site.

I hope that this can now be an end to this subject. I hope that everyone has a great Knockholt.

Ken

VT- that is a cunning plan to get stripagrams arranged, but email me if you are serious. Do NOT PM me, there may be grounds to think that the BNP have access to PMs.

A few Cops may protect us if an anti-knockholt posse decides to attend and hold work [over] shops.

That sounds a good idea.I cant get the link up but it would be extremely handy has I would not have to cart 3 bloody great joints with me on the journey to the field Wednesday morning.
Richard is bringing the lamb and I am/was getting the. Pork,Beef and Chicken meats from a friend.I have placed no order yet with him so it wont put him out.

It would make my journey to the field much more straight forward. The produce would not be frozen it would be fresh, no Rigmarole about defrosting we can marinate has soon has we are back on site it would be easy to cut or cube or slice and it can go in Richards cool box over night. Fantastic. Indeed i was having second thought Re my mate.
I was going to walk to Green St Green Wednesday morn solely for the above reasons.
There is mind a outstanding problem that remains a issue.

I can walk to Green street Green Cross country and main road.
I cannot walk the 15 miles to Sevenoaks
A wonderful Idea.
Regards Pierre.

Go Placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there maybe in silence.
Has far has possible,without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly/,and listen to others,
even to the dull and the Ignorant, they to have there story.
Avoid loud and agressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons then yourself.
Enjoy your achievements has well your plans. keep interest in your own career, however humble, its a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. but let this not blind you to what virtue thyere is,
Many persons strive for high ideals,
everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself.
Especially,do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and
disenchantment it is perennial as the Grass.

Take kindly to the counsel of the years, gracfully
surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyhond a wholesome discipline,be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,
no less then the trees and the stars,
you have the right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
No doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

There fore be at peace with your God,Whatever you concieve him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of Life, keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham and drudery and broken dreams,
It is still a beautiful world.
Be Cheerful.
Strive to be happy.
