Subject: BS: Slow downloads - here's the trick! From: Bonzo3legs Date: 04 Jul 09 - 08:36 AM The trick is to switch off your anti virus. My Torrent download speed jumped from 5-10KB/s in the evening to 150-260 KB/s! |

Subject: RE: BS: Slow downloads - here's the trick! From: artbrooks Date: 04 Jul 09 - 11:22 AM Are you on a dial-up connection? I typically get 3.7-4.0 MBPS on downloads with broadband...and my firewall and virus checker on. Turning off the virus checker when downloading seems pretty risky to me. |

Subject: RE: BS: Slow downloads - here's the trick! From: bobad Date: 04 Jul 09 - 02:45 PM When I download I do it to the desktop and scan with an AV and three different anti-malware programs before opening the file. |

Subject: RE: BS: Slow downloads - here's the trick! From: gnu Date: 04 Jul 09 - 04:12 PM Is there a way to download into "quarrantine" for subsequent scanning? |

Subject: RE: BS: Slow downloads - here's the trick! From: Amergin Date: 04 Jul 09 - 04:25 PM Well...the newer ms operating systems (vista and 7) have a special labeled downloads...you can have your AV program scan that particular folder...instead of the whole hard drive.... |

Subject: RE: BS: Slow downloads - here's the trick! From: olddude Date: 04 Jul 09 - 04:49 PM when you download, the downloaded file is buffered and save in cache it is more than risky to turn off your antivirus even if you are scanning afterwords unless you are running a full scan and scanning your cache you now have an infected file on your machine all ready to setup ... not good |

Subject: RE: BS: Slow downloads - here's the trick! From: Bonzo3legs Date: 04 Jul 09 - 05:05 PM The laptop I use for torrents is 90 years old so I'm not fussed. I can reinstall XP if necessary. We have simple wire telephone cable here, no fancy fibre optic! |

Subject: RE: BS: Slow downloads - here's the trick! From: olddude Date: 04 Jul 09 - 05:26 PM got ya, in that case should be ok, best maybe to go to internet options and delete all offline files after your download finishes, that will clear the cache |

Subject: RE: BS: Slow downloads - here's the trick! From: Stilly River Sage Date: 06 Jul 09 - 12:34 AM The story was better when it was 90! No way I'd turn off the AV to download something. Why have the AV at all if you're doing to do something like that? Set it up to do the download at night after you go to bed. Leave the computer on, scanning, and let your download happen when no one else will be bothered and it won't matter if it is slower. SRS |
