While in Ireland this year, a copy of 'Guerilla Days in Ireland' by Tom Barry was given to me as a thank-you gift by a cousin of my wife's when he and his wife spent a week with us in our house in Co. Cork.   This particular copy is a hardback re-printed in 1955 (first published in was 1949). In the front of the book, someone has glued a Brook Bond Tea collectors card from a set issued in 1967 which shows the Republic of Ireland flag and below it a celtic harp on a blue shield surrounded by shamrock. More interesting though is that the book has been signed on the fly leaf at the back of the book:   K Deasy, April 9th 1962. The initial K is not very clear, but the rest is very clear. It's a long shot I know, but I am curious to know whether this Deasy might have been related to Liam Deasy who served in the Flying Column in West Cork which was commanded by Tom Barry. I've tried google, but can find nothing about Liam Deasy outside of his links with the IRA and the war of independence. Anyone got any ideas?

Rog

Liam Deasy wrote his own book about the War of Independence. It is entitled "Towards Ireland Free", but there is no mention of a K Deasy in it. There are probably dozens if not hundreds of Deasy folk in Cork. It may be worth your while to search www.census.nationalarchives.ie which has the County Cork census for 1911. Liam Deasy may be recorded as William and he was born in 1896. Good luck

My wife's second cousin Kevin Deasy disappeared on April 10th 1962. I know this is a long shot, but could this be the K Deasy who signed the book? Could this mean something?
