Kuku'i- a tree, the nuts often made into necklaces ('leis'). The oil in these nuts is very inflammable; in the old days the nuts could be used for light. If not properly cured for 'leis', the contents develop a horrible stink. The tree is common on a short trail to a waterfall above Honolulu. mele- music or song. |
