Seriously! The Blue Bayou in NC is yours for love and $$:

http://raleigh.craigslist.org/bfs/1393245576.html

The owner has built it into a world-class venue (in my humble opinion) and it needs a new mama or daddy to keep it going for another hundred years.

Please tell your blues-loving friends and neighbors.

PM if you want to know more.

Or if you want to front me to buy it and run it : )

Dani

"The Blue Bayou Club is a place where people of all ages (over 21) can find connection with each other and enjoy live music. It is a friendly place like a gathering place oughta be. We hope you can leave your worries at the door, dance if you want, hang out and feel young again. We have the friendliest staff, and the best music around. We may be small but we have a big heart."

... google the name, and you should find an amazing array of musicians who stop there regularly.

It is a fine, fine club, and deserves to stick around for a while.

And if someone doesn't pick up on this, a "local" will buy it, put in seven large screen TVs, turn it into a "sports bar" and have nothing but Karaoke on Wed thru Sat nights. (As has happened to a number of formerly decent-to-good establishments in my area.)

You know, if a hundred and fifteen of us bought shares for 1000 dollars each, this could be a good opportunity for one of our many members who have run clubs to manage this place, and possibly even earn us some coin. We could rename it Mudcat Tavern.
I'm not entirely in jest on this.

I talked it over with BBW; last thing she asked last night was, "So...are we going to buy a blues club and move to North Carolina?"

She was seriously tempted. I said, "well, see...thing is, I don't know anything about running a blues club." HEr reply: "Yes, but we could learn real fast...".

So I am looking at real estate prices.

LEJ, the Blues Club opens from 5PM to 1AM. I'm thinking we could put in a day shift and call that the Mudcat Cafe. We could serve black coffee with sipping whiskey in it, and play Getaway recordings over the pA system. LOL!!! Ya think the town would move away?

Dani, are you serious about running it?

Well, I think a venue that offered both electric and acoustic blues, as well as occasional folk, bluegrass, world music etc, might be a great idea.
Dani, have you ever run a club before? I believe it requires some fairly strong management, bookkeeping, and booking skills. This place has a liquor license, I'm sure. I'm curious as to what the price includes? There is no real estate involved at that price I would imagine, so you're getting restaurant/bar fixtures, PA system, employees, and the good name and blue sky of the Blue Bayou. You start changing the music a bit and that could go away, I suppose.
I might consider an investment if somebody could put this together.

I want to know why it is for sale, and whether the books are showing aprofit and exactly in what way, if so. I am actually interested in this idea but I can't go beyond preliminary speculation without some hard data. If it is a leased site, then what are the relationships with the property owner? If the owner is about to bail on the real estate the whole thing could be an iffy go. If the club owner's salary is running the place deeper ionto debt, likewise. THer4e are a hundred questions to ask.

If we added a Sunday gospel and hootch event we could do wonders for the community. :>)

As Raleigh NC is a Sister City (as you 'mericans put it) to us over here in Hull (no, really!) perhaps we should put a few quid in the hat!

And what an opportunity for visitors from outside USA to have a decent venue to do a night or two at !

If I invested a few pounds , what are the chances of a night or two when I come over aagin ?

Okay, the businessman in me wants to see the books... Folks generally don't sell profitable businesses without some good reason... Yeah, the owner may just be worn out runnin' the joint... So??? Why not hire someone to run it??? So I have alot of questions...

Plus, in order to run any joint that mixes food with entertainment you'df better make some real decent money on the food and drink 'cause, at best, you'll break even on the entertainment... Might of fact, most of these joints use the entertainment to sell food and drink, not vice versa...

So, someone needs to talk with the owner and get some numbers like gross sales, expenses, etc... Business 101...

Also, I haven't been to Hillsboro but I know where it is and it could pull from Raleigh/Durham and Greesboro but I'm not sure what level of talent one would have to book to draw from those markets... There is a successful blues club in Charlotte, The Double Door, that does book high level talent and is able to draw folks with that... Not too sure about Hillsboro... That's the kinda stuff that anyone would want to know before plunkin' down some cash... Also, the value of the business shouldn't exceed much more than the assests...

Just the businessman in me talkin' here...

From the sound of his newsletter, it sounds like Gary L., the owner, is struggling with defects in his revenue-to-costs ratio. More investigation is underway.

Now if I was the other side of the pond AND had just won the lottery...the only way I'd get to perform to a paying audience is if I owned the club! Mind you, that would also get rid of the audience sharpish so perhaps it's just as well!
If Amos did make a go of it as a paying proposition he should pay Max a peercentage for use of the name- and give Max, Bobert etc regular gigs!
