OK, this thread was started in BS (which is appropriate). But the story just begs to be a Song Challenge!

So let's see what wonderful ditties about the moon you catters can come up with. Moons and trains and comeuppances are great fodder for folk song - especially when combined with each other.

Here's the story:

"BREAKING NEWS
Train drags German mooner half naked along tracks
Yesterday, 06:01 pm
Buzz Up! Print Story
A German man mooning at railway staff in a departing train got his trousers caught in a carriage door and ended up being dragged half naked along the platform, out of the station and onto the tracks. Skip related content

The 22-year-old journalism student shoved his backside against the window of a low-slung double-decker train when staff forced him off in Lauenbrueck for travelling without a ticket, a spokesman for police in the northern city of Bremen said.

"It's a miracle he wasn't badly hurt," the spokesman said on Monday. "This sort of thing can end up killing you."

Instead, dangling by his trousers, the man got pulled along for about 200 metres, all the while managing to keep his legs away from the wheels of the train.

The ordeal ended when a passenger pulled the emergency brake. Rescues services were called in, causing rail services between Bremen and Hamburg to be suspended for over an hour, delaying 23 trains.

The man -- unharmed except for cuts and bruises -- now faces charges of dangerous interference in rail transport, insulting the train staff, and may face sizeable a compensation claim for the delays he caused, police said.

"He was full of remorse when I talked to him," the spokesman said. "And he advised others not to try the same thing."

♫ Tune: "Here's to good old whisky" ♫

He stuck his bottom out!
Thought it fun --
Thought it fun!

And waved it all about!
What's to be done -
To be done?

Why here's the best solution
To bring him absolution
Never mind a prosecution -
Whack his bum -
Whack his bum!

{Spoken: You know it makes sense...}

Here's a modest contribution:

By Charlie Ipcar, 10/13/09
Tune: after traditional "Jay Gould's Daughter"

Is that the Moon I See?

On a Monday morning it was drizzling rain.
From the Bremen platform chugged a passenger train.
Left on the platform was a pissed Fritz von Huhn.
He was a journalism student, but he just had to moon.
He had to moon,
He had to moon,
He was a journalism student, but he just had to moon!

He pulled down his trousers with great dispatch
Backed up to the train but never looked back
His trousers got caught in the train carriage door,
"This is such a drag," that student swore,
This is such a drag,
This is such a drag,
"This is such a drag," that student swore!

Now Franz Schneider was a good engineer
Told his trusty fireman never to fear
Pour on your water, boys, and shovel on your coal
Stick your head out the window, watch that mooner roll
Watch that mooner roll,
Watch that mooner roll,
Stick your head out the window, watch that mooner roll!

"Now this doesn't look good," Fritz was forced to concede,
Dragging two hundred metres as the train picked up speed;
But his ordeal was over with a final bump and shake,
When a merciful passenger pulled the emergency brake,
Pulled the emergency brake,
Pulled the emergency brake,
When a merciful passenger pulled the emergency brake!

So the Rescue folks patched up all his cuts and bruises
But the Bremen Police refused to accept his excuses;
You can moon on the street and you can moon on the trail
But they'll ticket your ass if you moon on the Rail,
Moon on the Rail,
Moon on the Rail,
They'll ticket your ass if you moon on the Rail!

Cheerily,
Charley Ignoble

To the tune of "The Lincolnshire Poacher"

I didn't buy a ticket, When I boarded the Bremen train.
I hadn't got the time you see, oh life can be such a pain.
To catch the ruddy train I almost broke my flaming neck.
But for riding without a ticket, they put me off at Lauenbrueck.

I'd heard about this 'mooning' thing, it's where you flash your bum.
I guess the guy who told it me was not much of a chum.
I pulled my trousers halfway down, my shirt right up my back.
But suddenly I found myself being dragged along the track.

The train departed suddenly, my trousers were attached.
I tried to run in time with it but our speeds just were not matched.
There dangling by my trousers, thinking I was going to die.
And in my head I saw the whole (or hole) of my life 'flashing by.

Full 200 yards I was dragged along but no noise did I make.
So pleased was I when some kind guy applied the emergency brake.
Just cuts and bruises have I now, to show for my silly trick.
And I'm being prosecuted so I'm feeling a little sick.

I see the Moon, I see it plain,
Outside the window of the railroad train,
Being dragged along midst yells of pain
Hung from the door above!

Over the mountains, over the sea,
There is a backside winking at me,
Not a pretty sight you must agree,
Hung from the door above.

Somebody mooned from the Glendale train!
Last night at half past nine.
Some body mooned from the GLendale train,
Now I swear that I'm not lying.
It wasn't for love, and it wasn't for cash
That train pulled out just a little too fast.
Somebody mooned from the Glendale train
And he nearly lost his ass.

Refresh — must be some more moonie [as distinct from Unificatory Churchy] ballads in the womb-of-creativity out there...

&, no, Genie — I am not trying to rush the Muse: just give her an itsybitsy-teensyweensy little nudge, maybe.

Meanwhile, has the shameless fellow appeared in court yet — or, preferably, had his barebarebarebarebum thrashed?

I think the train tracks already gave said bum a pretty good thrashing.

But I will try to engage my muse sometime next week. The past couple weeks have been ridiculous.

I can hear the whistle blowing
High and lonesome as can be
Outside the train my pants are falling
Tonight they're falling just for me

CHORUS:
Looking back along the road I've traveled
Dragged along here by my tail
I'm hitched onto this rolling freight train
And cold as moonlight on the rails

I think about my friends and family
My home and all the things it means
My trousers trailing out behind me
Are like a string of broken dreams

CHORUS

A man who lives out on the highway
Is like a watch without a band
A man who moons a moving freight train
Can't find his rear end with both hands

CHORUS

I'm hitched onto this rolling freight train
And cold as moonlight on the rails
