Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: GUEST,Joe G Date: 15 Dec 13 - 10:26 AM Thanks for the update - Sad to hear about the pubs affected Shame as they had done a pretty good job on the Angel |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 15 Dec 13 - 09:44 AM The Middle Earth and Fleece remain closed after the tidal surge of last week and look likely to remain so over Christmas. The Middle Earth is undergoing a full refurbishment and I believe the Fleece will have to do the same as the refit they underwent recently has been extensively damaged. Even the floor in the front bar has been distorted by the volume of water. Downstairs at the Angel was also badly affected and is undergoing work. I do not know if the upstairs bar is operating but will endeavour to find out this afternoon. All other pubs are back to normal trading. Cheers Raggytash |

Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: Murpholly Date: 06 Dec 13 - 03:21 PM Nothing to stop you taking wellies, mops and buckets and spades to help the clear up which is pretty devastating so near Christmas. We are awaiting tonight's high tide on the Trent and hoping and praying it is not as bad as last night's as an aegir also predicted. Oh well all the instruments are off the floor so that's the main thing. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 06 Dec 13 - 03:11 PM The Endeavour was open this evening. It was open last night for the people who were in before the waters rose and were "forced" to stay there until they subsided. Alas alack ! I don't know about the Station at the moment, the power was still off in parts of the East side this evening and I believe the Station was flooded yesterday evening. The Fire Brigade were outside the Station, this morning presumably pumping out the cellar. However by Christmas all should be well .......... hopefully. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: Herga Kitty Date: 06 Dec 13 - 12:14 PM Just wondering, having seen the flooding in front of and behind the Angel on the BBC website today, how far the tidal surge affected the Station Inn and Endeavour... Kitty |

Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: Ian@whitby Date: 27 Dec 09 - 10:01 PM What sort of time is th eceilidh likely to kick off? & is it open to all? |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: GUEST,Charliestu Date: 27 Dec 09 - 02:38 PM Notwithstanding the previous emails, the FILO has no limitations, children AND adults are permitted as long as they all contribute. There's plenty room, a warm friendly atmosphere and 'space' to flex the elbows, good music and because it's off the beaten track tends to be quality than quantity - no 'rent a crowd' It could be habit forming |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: Mrs.Duck Date: 20 Dec 09 - 09:32 AM Well, Mrs Scrooge, bearing in mind we don't actually use the Sation anymore for New Year that doesn't apply! My children have been a part of the sing around crowd in the Tap and Spile as was for many years, somesince before they were born. The former landlords always made New Year a regulars and friends night so the children could join in the fun. I wouldn't expect to take them into a busy pub open to everyone on New Year's eve because I doubt they would enjoy it but I do not agree that it is for adults only. New Year is for anyone who wants to celebrate. We will be enjoying what time we do have in Whitby with good friends and will be with them in spirit(s?) as the bells ring in the new year! |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: GUEST,Charlie Stu Date: 20 Dec 09 - 09:07 AM Sat 2nd Jan Open Session at the FILO eight til late. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: GUEST,Mrs Scrooge Date: 20 Dec 09 - 07:02 AM Just to say that I thought New Year's Eve celebrations were for adults , not children. Also isn't space limited? I know I've been into the small room in the Station and been unable to find a seat as they were occupied by children who don't offer their seats to 'older people'. Bah Humbug |

Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: collierlad Date: 15 Dec 09 - 05:34 PM Jane its a shame the Duckling are not allow on New Years Eve, its the same reason why Ruth Price no longer comes. The New Cd is available by mail order see web site for more details or submit order |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: Mrs.Duck Date: 14 Dec 09 - 03:17 PM Looking forward to getting a copy of that, Brian. Hopefully we will be up on Tuesday but going home New Years Eve. Means we get to the ceilidh and the treasure hunt :) |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: Herga Kitty Date: 13 Dec 09 - 06:02 PM Thanks Brian. I got the spelling from John Warner's Pithead in the Fern album.... I thought he should know because he wrote it! Kitty |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: collierlad Date: 13 Dec 09 - 11:55 AM Thanks for that Kitty. I found refence to the song on the internet sometimes with a K other times a C. But I never argue with women so K it is. Have a nice New Year in Dorset. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: Herga Kitty Date: 13 Dec 09 - 11:07 AM Thanks for the link Brian - I'll be in Dorset for New Year so will have to wait until August to see you all in Whitby! Track 4 is Kitty Kane, though, with a K (not as in Miss Whiplash....) Kitty |

Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: GUEST,Lady Aelfleda Date: 12 Dec 09 - 05:34 AM Sorry not to have responded earlier but keep forgetting to visit Mudcat. Still Nick's done a great job keeping you all informed. In case you don't know, the fancy dress theme for New Year's Eve is: Names of Pubs. Venue will be The Endeavour - thanks to Barry & Co at the pub for putting up with us again! See you all soon Jude |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: gnomad Date: 12 Dec 09 - 04:37 AM Ah, I had the scale of it wrong, and thought it was meant for the top of the head. I look forward to seeing the crowd at New Year. Rumours that holes for a mass grave are being prepared on the outskirts of town are quite erroneous, we have been told to call them foundations. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: Les from Hull Date: 11 Dec 09 - 12:59 PM As you know Paul I'm famously hirsute. I just googled moustache trimmer! |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: gnomad Date: 11 Dec 09 - 11:55 AM I am always reluctant to ascribe sinister motives when an explanation of simple incompetence will suffice, Raggy. However since you have confessed in public, I am bound to believe you. As I am sure you have also previously claimed that you "cain't get no .. satisfaction" I must decline to meet you at the time and place nominated (I doubt that either of us will feel up to it) but will offer a pint when we next meet, in recompense for spoiling your evil plan. Les - Which of us is supposed to benefit from the tonsorial apparatus? As you know we are both thinning on top, but whereas Raggy likes to be well groomed I favour the gorgeously-dishevelled look. I am unsure which of us would wield what. |

Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: Raggytash Date: 11 Dec 09 - 10:37 AM Swine ! How can I keep all the free beer to myself if you go teeling people that the events are in December and not January as I so cunningly tried to indicate. I demand satification and will meet you on the beach at dawn on the 1st January, you will of course have the choice of weapon. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: gnomad Date: 11 Dec 09 - 10:23 AM You sure about those dates, Raggy? Most folks are going for New Year. at Dec-Jan rather than Jan-Feb. I'll send Lady A an e-mail & ask her to visit the thread with more details. |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: Joules Date: 11 Dec 09 - 10:03 AM I'll be there with the other half |

Subject: RE: Who's going to Whitby at New Year? From: Mrs.Duck Date: 10 Dec 09 - 04:26 PM We hope to get up for a day or two but have the problem of children on New Year's Eve not being alloweed in the pubs so will have to miss out on that one.
