This viral internet campaign is probably just one of many that we will be seeing in the case of missing persons or unsolved crimes. The husband is a person of interest.

The friends and family of missing Utah mother Susan Powell have decided to use internet social networking, internationally, in an unprecedented way to focus attention on this missing person case. They have set up networking links on Facebook, Twitter, and youtube with photos and videos to get the word out about her case.

They have asked that anyone with a blog or forum post the information and/or to email to contacts the information about her case as can be seen on the Facebook page.

It makes no difference at all if Powell is a missing child, adult or floppy-eared puppy. Trying to get the entire frigging world's attention over one individual to that extent is obscene.

What a bunch of cynical, harsh folk some of you are. What does it hurt for a family and friends to do all they can to try to find their loved one? YOU don't have to visit those pages or look at her picture to help find her. I see nothing wrong with people using the internet that way. If it were one of my family I would do everything I could to find them.

I hope they find her, soon, and that she is alive.

For that matter Jack - you don't even need to open this thread if you find these activities objectionable. In this case you had a choice to make. Next time - make a better choice and don't open a thread that you know is going to bother you. Simple. Now go have a bran muffin.

Exactly so. The internet is not yet fully utilized- who knows to what uses it will eventually be put?

"We look at it as very positive," said Capt. Tom McLachlan of the West Valley City Police Department. "Does it generate a lot more work for us? Yes it will, but that is how you run an investigation."

The West Valley City Police Department has a detective assigned to watch social media sites during the blitz.

Would you be so harsh if it was your very own "missing child, adult ..." (perhaps not your own "floppy-eared puppy", but no one brought puppies into the equation before your post). Could you try to put yourself in another's place? Would you not care if that missing person was someone you dearly love, care for, and is an integral part of your life and existence, someone you share a house with, maybe a bed with? Would you not go to the ends of the Earth to find that person who you brought into the world, or brought you into the world, or who you loved enough to marry?

Alice's title makes very, very clear exactly what this thread is about, so you're warned in advance what you're getting. Then why not just walk away? It's a lot less trouble than opening it and going to the bother of posting.

You never know, but somebody out there may actually be able to help as a result of seeing this. That's a lot more important than putting up with momentary - and quite avoidable - irritation.

As one who spent a lot of time putting up and replacing "Missing Person" posters, I admire their efforts. Leave no stone unturned.
Remember that poor woman who spent most of her childhood and early adulthood hidden in a back yard camp. Maybe a media blitz would have made some ONE person more apt to pay attention and end her misery.

Susan Powell, 28, was last seen on Dec. 7, when her husband says he left their suburban home in West Valley City at about 12:30 a.m. to take their two boys, ages 2 and 4, camping in freezing conditions.

Take a four year old - never mind a two year old - camping at half past midnight in freezing conditions??

Hello, Alice. Thanks for posting the links. I went to Youtube and studied the pictures of Susan, so I can recognize her in case she finds herself in my neighborhood.
