Subject: RE: BS: If only English Folk Music was From: CarolC Date: 01 Feb 10 - 05:08 PM Passion's not the only redeeming quality that a culture can have. If all cultures were equally passionate, passion would become boring. Beethoven's music is passionate, and I love his music, but sometimes I need a calmer sort of beauty, like a lot of Bach's music. I don't see why it needs to be any different with folk cultures. |

Subject: RE: BS: If only English Folk Music was From: CarolC Date: 01 Feb 10 - 06:09 PM Yes, but...we're boring 'cos we lack passion in the first place I don't think I can agree with that, Lizzie. Have you ever heard our SkipjackK8 play English folk tunes? His playing is very passionate. If you haven't heard him play before, I recommend making an effort to do so. And our Sam Pirt is an extremely passionate musician, although I don't know if I've ever heard him play English folk. And our Bernard, too. I heard him play Dark Island once with a subtle passion. Granted, these are all on the accordion, and maybe accordion players are more passionate than other kinds of English musicians, but still. You do have some passionate people in your country. |

Around 1105 each week. It is of course an "Irish" tune written by O'Carolan, nevertheless associated with morris dancing for many years. |
