A downside of the Potter interview was its slightly manic pitch to ITV and the BBC to join forces to produce his last play, which was a long way below his best work. It was nevertheless uplifting, as was Terry Pratchett's lecture. Pratchett made a good case for assisted death, but people like Ludovic Kennedy were doing so just as persuasively many years ago and it is ridiculous that in this respect our so-called civil society is still rooted in the dark ages.

For those who missed it on BBC TV last night. The Annual Richard Dimbleby lecture was presented by Sir Terry Pratchett. He has been diagnosed with a severe form of Altzheimers disease, and this programme is called "Shaking hands with death".
Most of his lecture is read by Tony Robinson (better known as Baldrick in the Blackadder series) because Sir Terry is finding it difficult to read.
Probably the most uplifting piece of television since the Melvyn Bragg interview with Dennis Potter just a few weeks before his death.
I would urge anyone who can access it, to watch it.
Probably the most intelligent and cogent arguement for assisted death that I have ever heard.
Ralph
