Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 09 Feb 10 - 06:36 PM Hey gnu. I'm going to be a pedant and say don't you mean this year? |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: gnu Date: 09 Feb 10 - 06:34 PM Ya know what... nevermind. I don't care. See yas all next year. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: gnu Date: 09 Feb 10 - 06:26 PM MT... okay.... If team A kicks off to team B, why does team B get the ball on team A's 20 or better? |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: mousethief Date: 09 Feb 10 - 05:15 PM gnu, what part don't you understand? Kicking off? Yard lines? The typical position on the field after a kick-off? We're mutually confusing each other. O..O =o= |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 09 Feb 10 - 04:51 PM Is that Vince or Joe? |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: gnu Date: 09 Feb 10 - 04:48 PM LOMBARDI GRAS! Hahahahahaaa... good one! |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: PoppaGator Date: 09 Feb 10 - 04:42 PM Sorry I didn't see this thread until two days after the game, but I was busy elsewhere, watching the game, and haven't logged on to the computer at all for a while. The Saints have been letting their opponents score first all year, so I wasn't at all worried at 7-0 or even At 10-0. The failed 4th-and-goal call was at least aggressive, and (as noted above) resulted in good enough field position to get another 3 points before halftime anyway. And, speaking of aggressive play-calling, then came the onsides kick! From that point on it was really all over. LOMBARDI GRAS! |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: gnu Date: 09 Feb 10 - 04:40 PM MT.... "...but then they would have to kick off to the Colts, who would then have the ball on the Saints' 20, or very possibly better field position than that." WTF are you talking about? |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: mousethief Date: 09 Feb 10 - 03:46 PM gnu: In their position you would expect them to kick the field goal. If they had the would certainly have got it -- but then they would have to kick off to the Colts, who would then have the ball on the Saints' 20, or very possibly better field position than that. By going for a touchdown instead, if they fail then they are out 3 points, but the Colts have the ball on the Saints' goal line -- making it much harder for them to make it into scoring position, and therefore far more likely to have to punt, and from much farther back. Thus putting the Saints in much better position to make a touchdown. O..O =o= |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 09 Feb 10 - 03:11 PM As you say, it was a calculated risk. AS the man said, trust your defense. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: gnu Date: 09 Feb 10 - 03:10 PM I don't understand??? |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: mousethief Date: 09 Feb 10 - 01:14 PM I read somewhere that going for 7 instead of 3 was a calculated risk in the sense that if they failed to make the 7, it put the Colts at such a disadvantage in field position that it was worth giving up the 3. In other words they could have gone for the easy 3 but then the Colts would have a much easier time making up 7 of their own. By giving up the 3 they made it all the more unlikely the Colts would score on that drive. But who knew the Colts would be so obliging? O..O =o= |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: gnu Date: 09 Feb 10 - 11:20 AM Yes, Dave... it sure put a fire in the hearts of the Saints and made the Colts nervous. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 09 Feb 10 - 11:01 AM Nobody's mentioned the end of the 2nd quarter - Payton went for 7 rather than 3 on 4th down and failed. Manning got the ball with c99 yards to go and failed to make 1st down. Saints got the ball back and finished the half with 3. I'd say that was where it started to be the Saints' game. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: gnu Date: 08 Feb 10 - 05:38 PM Ahhhhh... a wait (yes) lifted off my shoulders Mousethief! They really sucked, big time. It was embarrassing. I felt bad for such amazing musicians to not know when to hang it up.... BUT... I woulda done it too... fer the coin, if I coulda. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: mousethief Date: 08 Feb 10 - 05:31 PM The Who couldn't have sucked worse. Daltry couldn't sing, and Townshend only played a minute of real guitar. Nice to see Zak on the drums, but like his father they didn't let him do anything. Great game though, and awesome outcome. O..O =o= |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 08 Feb 10 - 04:32 PM I did see the wardrobe malfunction, and only realised that something had happened when I saw it in the tabloids. Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. The worst bit about that show was how like her brother she looked and sounded. What about some folk! Maybe someday. I can remember when it was usually the Disney Corporation! |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: gnu Date: 08 Feb 10 - 04:26 PM Sorry, but... Stones? The Who? Why? What about some folk? Oh, yeah... nobody knows what folk is. >;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: bankley Date: 08 Feb 10 - 04:18 PM but did Keef have a wardrobe malfunction ? |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 08 Feb 10 - 04:04 PM The Who were a lot better than the Stones - when they were on, they looked better than they sounded, and Keef was in close-up! Best half-time show is still Springsteen. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: bankley Date: 08 Feb 10 - 01:21 PM congrats Saints... but The Who are over the hill... I saw them in the 60's when they could kick ass, esp Keith Moon.. Townsend had to register as a pedophile before entring the US due to his kiddie porno charges a few years ago.... 'People try to put me d-d-down' |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: olddude Date: 08 Feb 10 - 10:59 AM Always loved the commercials, this year was a huge disappointment I thought. Most didn't make me laugh or was even very clever. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: wysiwyg Date: 08 Feb 10 - 10:56 AM Wotta game! Commercials-- never saw so much Gender War in one 'Bowl. I can only recall one of those commercials that actually made us laugh. I also didn't like the way numerous beer commercials highlighted alcoholism!!! And what was that Bud/Clydes/Bull one supposed to MEAN? Didn't you also think the Bud/Bridge one would have Clydes?!?!?!? But we get a truck instead?!?!?!? ~S~ |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 08 Feb 10 - 10:44 AM Then again, Manning looked (with reason) as if he thought it was the Colts against the world. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: Charley Noble Date: 08 Feb 10 - 08:38 AM It certainly looked to me in the first quarter that the Colts had full control of the field. It really was a game full of surprises. Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 07 Feb 10 - 08:27 PM Here's a story I heard several years ago, told by a Cajun musician. Wait - it was Mark Savoy. At the time, the Saints were a losing team. =============== Beaudreau died and went to Hell. One day the devil came to him and said, "What do you think of the heat in Hell, Beaudreau?" Beaudreau shrugged. "Reminds me of a day planting the beans in April in Louisiana." The devil said "Humph!" Then he went and jacked up the thermostat of Hell as high as it would go. He went back and he said, "What do you think of that, Beaudreau?" But Beaudreau just said, "Reminds me of walking the beans in Louisiana in August." So the devil went and turned the thermostat of Hell down as COLD as it would go. There were icicles hanging everywhere, and snow was flying. "What do you think of THAT, Beaudreau?" "I don't know what to think. I guess the Saints must have gone to the Superbowl." ========= Hell must be freezing today! |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 07 Feb 10 - 06:47 PM I was just going to ask if there was footage of Payton playing for the Panthers, and the Beeb showed it! |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: gnu Date: 07 Feb 10 - 06:43 PM They pulled Freeney on third and two! Oh oh. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: gnu Date: 07 Feb 10 - 06:27 PM Will the Saints double Clark? What if Addai is lined up short... will they drop and stop and risk the cross short under with the deep threat optional? Will the Colts secondary play blanket zone beyond mid-field and leave one deep back or play man-to-man on blitz and dare the Saints to pound the ball? Have they got the balls to risk it against the Brees? Are they Manning enough? Or dozens of other scenarios... chess indeed. Unless you know the game, you just don't know it. On many threads, I have said I LOVE football, rugby, tennis, squash, etc... but Yankee Football is like everything else the Yanks do... they just do it better. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy SUPER SUNDAY! From: gnu Date: 07 Feb 10 - 06:08 PM Freeney still can't cut! Fast straight ahead, but could not cut in drill today. He is gonna get jammed every down until they see if it's a ruse. |
