I saw this demonstrated recently in a sort of travelling temporary planetarium: stellarium
and it was wonderful.

--it's free, open-source software that lets you replicate the stars in the night sky in your location, and at your time...all the stars, not just the few that can outshine light pollution.

I use Heavens Above.
You give it your coordinates, or just find your location on their lists, and it gives you a chart for any time you want.
It also gives you satellite passes and Iridium Flares.
