Subject: BS: CapriUni's Script Frenzy! From: CapriUni Date: 13 Mar 10 - 12:23 AM Script Frenzy! (and yes, the exclamation point is part of the name) is run by the same people who run National Novel Writing Month (The office of Letters and Light). Where National Novel Writing Month is about writing a novel's worth of prose (50,000 words) in 30 days, Script Frenzy! is about writing a feature film's worth of script (100 pages) in 30 days, and the thirty days in question are specifically the Month of April. Movies may be the initial inspiration, but participants are welcome to write in any format of script they fancy -- from radio dramas, stage plays, T.V. episodes, even comic books: as long as what you're creating is a blueprint of sorts that you can hand off to others to build something with. The Office of Letters and Light have a philosophy: That letting yourself take creative risks, learn by doing, and allowing yourself to make mistakes is more important than making something perfect and polished. Along with running their websites that let people connect with, and encourage each other, they also provide resources to schools, so whole classrooms of kids can get involved in the creative process, free of charge. Anyway, I'm excited to be signing up for this, this year, because this year, I'm finally a story with a disabled protagonist, which is something people have been asking about since I was in grade school, and I've been resisting, all this time (mostly because they've been asking about it -- psychology is tricky like that). Anyway, I thought I'd just let Mudcatters know what my next looming big creative project is, since so many of you have provided help and encouragement through other creative projects, and life milestones. I'll keep you guys updated on my progess too, if you don't mind. |

Subject: RE: BS: CapriUni's Script Frenzy! From: katlaughing Date: 13 Mar 10 - 12:30 AM Oh you brave woman, you! I got the email about it and sent it on to my sister. I hope she will try it as she has a background in theatre and several screenplays in her head. It will be fun to hear from you...I'll be cheering from the stands! Go, CU, go!! |

Subject: RE: BS: CapriUni's Script Frenzy! From: CapriUni Date: 13 Mar 10 - 01:30 AM Well, I tried it the first year, and reached 100 pages, but I wasn't really satisfied with the results. That first year, the month they chose was June (to coincide with the Summer Blockbuster season), and NaNoWriMo was a distant enough memory that I had gotten my courage back by that time. The second year, they moved it to April (so that they could get schoolkids involved in group scriptwriting). And that's just too close to December, for me. So I couldn't find the stamina to write any more than "Act one, scene one" on the first page. This last year, I skipped NaNo, and The Art Garden is on hold until further notice, and I was beginning to feel the itch for organized writing. ...And they are such a cheerful crew over there. |

Subject: RE: BS: CapriUni's Script Frenzy! From: katlaughing Date: 13 Mar 10 - 03:17 AM I know, that's half the fun of doing it, just following along to see what they will come up with next for encouragement, etc. I tried last Nov. but was in too much of a state to finish. I've decided since I was successful in 2006 and 2008, I'd better stick to the even-numbered years for nanowrimo.:-) I thought about trying the Script Frenzy! but I don't think April will work well for me. Anyway, have fun and I'll be watching for ya. (Hope the Art Garden reopens, soon.) kat |

Subject: RE: BS: CapriUni's Script Frenzy! From: CapriUni Date: 13 Mar 10 - 12:20 PM Yeah, I may do the odd-numbered years for NaNo, and even-numbered years for Screnzy. One mad writing month a year is enough. :-) |
