Subject: BS: Congratulations Leeds Utd! From: Arnie Date: 10 May 10 - 08:25 AM Just thought I'd redress the balance for this side of the Pennines. I don't usually start football threads but it's like a red (lit.) rag to a bull seeing a thread on Mudcat about that other lot from over there. I accept that it was posted by one of our US friends seeking information, but I just can't let it pass without balancing these things out. Anyway, after 3 years in the wilderness of Div 1 and failed play-offs, Leeds have finally won automatic promotion to the CCC. So well done the Whites - onwards and upwards and make sure Beckford stays at the club! |

Subject: RE: BS: Congratulations Leeds Utd! From: Backwoodsman Date: 10 May 10 - 08:35 AM Absolutely, Arnie. The boys done good! Plenty of white, blue and yellow in evidence in Leeds city centre on Saturday afternoon, all good-natured that I saw. The next question will be, can we repeat this season's feat and get back to the Premier League for the following season? |

Subject: RE: BS: Congratulations Leeds Utd! From: Dave the Gnome Date: 10 May 10 - 08:40 AM Living in Manchester and currently working in Leeds I drive past Elland Road every day. What will this mean to me? How come Leeds want to join the Craigenower Cricket Club anyway? Or is it the Committee on Climate Change? Will I have to start having my passport stamped at Ainley Top? We need to know these things! Congratulations anyway. Whatever it is... :D (eG) |

Subject: RE: BS: Congratulations Leeds Utd! From: MikeL2 Date: 10 May 10 - 10:02 AM hi arnie ......and it's many congratulations from here "on the other side" of the hill. It is not befroe time that Leeds hold the keys to their rightful place back to the Premier League. Let's hope it won't be long before they belong.....get it ?? One of the most exciting and thrilling games we saw at Old Trafford this season was the cup game with Leeds. In that game looked leagues ahead of their position and in most cases above most of the Premiership sides. Obviously we didn't enjoy losing, especially to Leeds but we were beaten by a far better side on the day. I for one am amazed at their drop in form that day. Still all's well that...... Congratulations. A good day for football. Cheers MikeL2 |

Subject: RE: BS: Congratulations Leeds Utd! From: Raggytash Date: 10 May 10 - 10:15 AM Backswoodman, it may have been all sweetness and light in Leeds on Saturday but Leeds fans sadly where fighting in lumps in Whitby on Saturday afternoon and evening despite just being promoted. Leeds have achieved promotion on merit however they have a small minority of fans who continue to cause the club to have a less than envious reputation. |

Subject: RE: BS: Congratulations Leeds Utd! From: Backwoodsman Date: 10 May 10 - 10:57 AM Can't argue with you there Raggy, but the same is true of a fair number of clubs - some fans of the aforementioned Millwall and Charlton, for instance, could hardly be described as "Paragons of Virtue"! There's an unfortunate sickness in society today, and the yobbery that goes on in town-and city-centres at weekends is closely mirrored in the behaviour of some football-so-called-fans. And it's not just one club that has this thug-element amongst its tribe, I'd stick my neck out and say that every club has some supporters who fall into that category. Unfortunately, not all are as high-profile as Leeds. But that's not to make excuses, it's sad that a great club like Leeds have to carry this kind of baggage around, and it does the vast majority of decent, good fans a great disservice when a small number of brain-dead morons use the club as an excuse to behave worse than animals. |

Subject: RE: BS: Congratulations Leeds Utd! From: Tug the Cox Date: 10 May 10 - 07:43 PM MikeL2 Had a bit of a chuckle at that result myself, after a family fall out ( when Charlton and Millwall finally got to be in the same division c.1967 I supported Millwall while my brothers remained with Charlton. |

Subject: RE: BS: Congratulations Leeds Utd! From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 10 May 10 - 08:04 PM Leeds United are an Association Football team who play in Leeds, Yorkshire. Leeds' other football teams are in the Guiness Premiership (Union) and Superleague (League). There are other football teams within the Leeds conurbation who do not have Leeds in their names. |

Subject: RE: BS: Congratulations Leeds Utd! From: Richie Black (misused acct, bad email) Date: 17 Mar 11 - 07:37 AM I see some MPs have voiced concerns today over the fact that nobody seems to know who owns Leeds United Football Club. The club's chief executive Shaun Harvey admitted that neither he nor the club's chairman Ken Bates had any knowledge of the 'mysterious trust' who own the club. Leeds is owned by a holding company called FSF, based on the West Indies island of Nevis. |
