...and wins well, indeed - Mahut didn't do a lot wrong in that last game, rather a couple of great passing shots from Isner.

Isner wins 70-68.

68-68 now. They have each won enough games in the fifth set alone to have taken eleven regular sets with two games to spare.

Then there's the (RE)scheduling!..."600 games all - tie-breaker will NOW commence."   :-(>

Still tied as light faded, 59-59 in the final set after 10hours' play.. Back tomorrow for a third day!

Seriously, for what it's worth, there's plenty I'd disagree with McEnroe on, but not on EVERY set being decided with a tie-breaker. Tennis is enough of a test of stamina without having to play 100s of games!

And now 55 games all. Incredible but a lot of it is ace ace ace!

If you want/need to check a bit more tennis, and have access to the BBC, Paco - check Isner v. Mahut - 46 games all in the fifth!

I wandered lonely as a cock... the ferocious tennis ball hit me in the cock. DAMN! I need a bit more practise at this poetry lark!

Matt Harvey is a top man, a hugely talented poet, and one day I would hope to see him offered the Poet Laureateship, if only to see how gracefully he would decline. Nobody is more deserving of a break like this.

He is also a close friend of our family.

I don't think it was in the Evening Chronicle, Dave. Alas, here's a couplet about a chap with no such worries - guess who...

Poem 223 of 230: SERIOUS SERVING

We were taught "stand in-plane, like a golfer" -
Who started this "aim at the umpire"?!

Heard on ITV news yesterday, by the way, that there is now an official Wimbledon Poet in Residence - Matt Harvey is the lucky man.

Wimbledon 2010 started today (also, our summer solstice)...

Poem 195 of 230: MUSING ON WIMBLEDON - SUMMER 2002

2001 got somewhat cheeky,
So, on my T.V., I was pleased to see
Old-fashioned etiquette about the net...
But oh! to get among the coaching set.
Thus, here is a feature that I'd teach:
Two-hands each side – either off when can't reach.
And, as for thoughts on pay, I do not say
"Amateur play" but "spread-out the outlay."

(C) David Franks 2003
From http://walkaboutsverse.webs.com

As he said himself, thought Federa was a tad lucky to get through the first round...
