Subject: RE: Obit: Oedipuss Runt From: SINSULL Date: 29 Jun 10 - 08:41 PM Claire, Did you ever meet Oed? Definitely a Kliban cat but mean, very mean. Ask Seamus. He has the scars to prove it. If there is a hereafter for kitties, Oed is the meanest kitty in the litterbox. I miss him. SINS |

Subject: RE: Obit: Oedipuss Runt From: Bat Goddess Date: 29 Jun 10 - 09:18 PM Oed was my friend, too. Miss him already. I don't think he was mean...just boss cat. (And a little territorial...ask Seamus.) Now who's going to keep Alice, Lizzie and Freddie in line? Hugs and sympathy. He was a good guy and I'll miss him. Linn |

Subject: RE: Obit: Oedipuss Runt From: ClaireBear Date: 29 Jun 10 - 09:25 PM I thought I had met him, and if he was a Kliban cat AND mean, I probably have. I've met at least one genuine Kliban cat -- one of his daughters is my best friend, and through her I met at least one of his models -- the meatloaf-shaped one. She, too, was mean. I can't remember her name, but i remember her title: the dreaded Hamwort. This is because, when the family lived in San Francisco, she used to sneak out the kitchen window and drag home veal cutlets and slices of prosciutto she'd stolen from the neighbors' kitchens. Ahe was a real take-no-prisoners kind of cat. I saw her levitate off the couch once from full nap mode, at about age 19, to catch an unsuspecting bird that thought it was safe. Most of my best friends have "difficult" personalities, and cats are no different. In fact, I am difficult myself -- but then, being difficult is a large part of what makes one interesting. Raising a toast to Special Ed's memory. C |

Subject: RE: Obit: Oedipuss Runt From: Jeri Date: 29 Jun 10 - 09:25 PM He walked purposefully, more like a bulldog than a cat, and the soundtrack was sort of like the "Jaws" theme: BUM-bum BUM-bum BUM-bum. He got mellower in his dotage, and I was much less afraid he'd eat my hand. If he'd been human, he perhaps would have been eulogized thusly: "He sure wasn't perfect, but there were and are none like him," and "When he walked into a room, you KNEW it!" Oh, hell, forget what I said about being human. The lines apply regardless. I'll miss him. Nowhere near as much as Mary will, but I'll still miss him, |

Subject: RE: Obit: Oedipuss Runt From: Stilly River Sage Date: 29 Jun 10 - 11:38 PM Mary, I get my cat contact these days when I have to go in to my vet's office. They all seem to have office cats these days. It's nice to have that reminder of how when a cat really wants to be friends, and you've been selected, how special they can make you feel. I'm sorry you lost your buddy, no matter what his personality. SRS |

Subject: RE: Obit: Oedipuss Runt From: LadyJean Date: 30 Jun 10 - 12:33 AM My Gracie is definately a Kliban cat. Two of my old friends died when I moved to this Beaver Colony I call home. It kind of tore me apart. I have three good friends now. I hope not to lose them any time soon. A boyfriend I had once said of one of my cats that he was up in cat heaven, chasing giant mice that always run in the right direction. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Oedipuss Runt From: catspaw49 Date: 30 Jun 10 - 04:51 AM If you're lucky, your brood will have several types and personalities including a honcho with a strong sense of pride in his cathood. He is almost always male and knows how to walk the walk. As he passes he has an look of disdain for other cats and often people too with a facial expression that tells the looks recipient they are assholes. He is a wonderful lover but only shares that fact in secretive and private moments with those very few humans who pay him the due homage and respect he rightly deserves. Sorry Sins............. Spaw (and "Bix") |

Subject: RE: Obit: Oedipuss Runt From: ClaireBear Date: 30 Jun 10 - 05:05 AM Mine's name was Toby, and he was such a splendid specimin that, 12 years after his death, I still cannot consider letting another cat into my bed. Perhaps Oed and Toby are, even now, sorting it out on Mars. Spaw, that was a stunningly keen portrait. Sometimes you amaze me. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Oedipuss Runt From: SINSULL Date: 30 Jun 10 - 08:15 AM That was Oed, Spaw. I will miss seeing Seamus shrink and fawn in front that old moth eaten hunk of fur. He still had it. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Oedipuss Runt From: Becca72 Date: 30 Jun 10 - 08:33 AM Oh Mary I'm so sorry! I always referred to Oed as "The Godfather" because that's the vibe he gave off - gigantic tuxedo cat with major attitude. Such a great cat! I will miss him terribly. My cat-in-charge is Mikey. He aspires to be Oed, I think. Except Mikey is only 8 lbs. The attitude is much much bigger, though. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Oedipuss Runt From: ranger1 Date: 30 Jun 10 - 09:36 AM Mary, I'm so sorry. I will miss being his doorperson. I never thought of him as mean. He definitely had a "don't f*** with me" attitude, but I think it was more that he didn't suffer fools. Ed was the boss, he knew it and he wanted to make sure everyone else knew it, too. But he did let Freddy snuggle up with him, so how mean could he really be? Now my Caitlin on the other hand is mean. Jusat ask any of the dogs. We once took care of a friend's dog for the weekend and poor Cassis wouldn't even go to the kitchen for a drink of water without a human escort... |

Subject: RE: Obit: Oedipuss Runt From: ClaireBear Date: 30 Jun 10 - 03:07 PM Out of the deep dark past came hurtling the name of The Dreaded Hamwort: Burton Rustle Kliban (or possibly Brown -- not sure about the surname). There. Now I can rest. And Burton Rustle is probably even now sorting it out with Oed and Toby on Mars. C |

Subject: RE: Obit: Oedipuss Runt From: Genie Date: 30 Jun 10 - 11:18 PM Condolences, Sins, from me and Grisabella. Subject: RE: Obit: Oedipuss Runt From: SINSULL Date: 01 Jul 10 - 07:56 AM And on the brighter side: One of Oed's less endearing traits was his absolute refusal to poop in the litter box. When he was about 5" long I attempted to show him how to bury his waste in the box. He grew ten inches. Grabbed on to the sides of the litter and refused. He peed in the box but would not poop there. So, in winter, I spent a part of my day tracking down and picking up feces. Those days are over. Some of you who use the upstairs bedrooms will be relieved as well. SINS |

Subject: RE: Obit: Oedipuss Runt From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 01 Jul 10 - 08:02 AM Go well, Oed- he was not "nice"- but by cat standards, he was Good. He was badass- and somewhere, he's still pooping in the flower beds and making fingered-ones cringe. |
|
Subject: RE: Obit: Oedipuss Runt From: Charmion Date: 01 Jul 10 - 03:30 PM Ah, Mary, how sad. I remember Oed well; much like our Bill but a different colour scheme. I'm sure he's happily slaughtering small game in heaven. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Oedipuss Runt From: Charley Noble Date: 02 Jul 10 - 07:57 AM Mary- Sorry to hear about the passing of old Oed. Of course now I have this vivid image of him relieving himself in kitty haven. Watch out below! Charley Noble |
