In the Uk we spell it "school"

However, it would seem to be different in the States. Click on link below.

Don't know whether the person was drunk or what :-)

One is reminded of the conversation - was it between Churchill and Eisenhower - Q..."Where did you learn to pronounce it "skedule"? A.."In shool of course".

I heard basically the same conversation (although perhaps between two other speakers)as:

"In England we pronounce the word spelled 'schedule' as 'shedule'. Why do you Yanks insist on saying 'skedule'?"

"Better shool system, I guess."

There is a railway station on the line between London and Cambridge with this painted on the platform:

    GAP THE MIND

Maybe that's what shcool does to you.

In high school and college I learned that if we are concentrating hard on what letters should look like, we can make the most foolish misspellings. That may have happened here, where the crew was concentrating on the equipment.

For some reason, a widespread goof was 'stratigrapic.'

On the other hand, if it was August in North Carolina, it was probably incredibly hot on the black asphalt, and that does not lead to clear thinking. And the crew might not even speak English.

Good thing the paint was merely interim.

Reminds me of the poem for national LSD week Jack.

"Mind, how you go!"

Here are some that are misspelt in English, rather than misspelled in American: -

That was in the newspaper I get. Someone I once knew showed me a
design for a poster, and the spelling mistakes were amazing. The words
that you would consider to be harder to spell were spelled correctly,
but words you would consider to be easier to spell like "money" were
spelled incorrectly. He spelled it as "munny".

The BBC program "That's Life", presented by Esther Rantzen, once had a gallery of misspelled road signs in Britain.

Could it get worse than "BUS SOTP", they wondered. The next one (on the approach to a bend) read "SLOM".

maple leaf boy - I remember reading somewhere that people know that they can spell the easier words, so only look up the harder ones.

sandra (who has only ever looked up harder words!)

I usually watch news on BBC America. At the botton, other news items are often scrolled, with occasional mis-spellings. No one is safe from occasional mis-steps.
Look at some of the typing in Ebooks. Must have been done by arthritic geriatrics.

Grammar as well.
One I remember from childhood in bilingual Santa Fe was Keep Off From the Grass. Must have been on dozens of city-made signs.
