Lots of threads on pet peeves and poor manners and such, but, what REALLY, REALLY pisses you off?

Today, I was talking with contractors for a simple job. One lad was on the phone with me asking far tooooo many questions which can only be answered when he sees the "job" trying to impress/snow me with his expertise and credentials, over and over.

That's annoying enough but he did the one thing I cannot abide... he asked me questions and then did not allow me to answer before asking more questions or giving me "options" in defining his question(s).

If you ask me a question, I will... pardon me? Okay, let me answer your first question... what?... no, that doesn't matter in this case... I asked you... what?... AARRRRRRRRGGHHHHHH! He interrupted me repeatedly. I wanted to reach through the wire and choke the bastard!

At one point, I stopped talking altogether. Silence. He asked if I was still on the phone. I asked, "Do you want to come look at the job and quote on it or not? Yes or no. If you do, tell me when. Otherwise this conversation is over because you are not listening to me."

Where has the common respect of proper conversation gone? Are people just brain dead or uneductaed? Isn't it just good manners to allow someone to answer a question?

I take it you don't listen to/watch the American broadcaster Chris Matthews?(MSNBC) *grin*. He is my side of most issues, but I want to throttle him for not allowing his 'guests' to finish an answer. His brain seems to be wired so that he MUST say anything that pops into his head.

We have the same with our radio in UK - IF the guy being interviwed is waffling , OK , but when the interviwer interrupts an answer it annoys me too !
I also get seriously P'd off with So Called Educated people who call
Jewelry JOOLERY and refer to SAMWIDGES instead of Sandwiches!

Bill D... I used to enjoy watching Oprah (and the like) when she would do shows of interest to me on important issues but I had to stop for that very same reason. She, and other talk show hosts, use(d) the same method of bullying the people they are/were interviewing so they or their "take" appear as superior whether or not they are.

Yes... I did call Oprah a bully. I expect she's done a show or two on bullies and taken the high and mighty too.

Rap... the records show that the Canucks were the ones that kicked the ass of The Huns at Vimy in WWI ultimately leading to victory (I konw that's you know) and "lead" the way in WWII by way of Dieppe and... for a small and POLITE nation, Canuckistan has done well.

As far as "growing up", as far as "someone will be tearing apart your sweet, nice, society", well, I have to admit, it's happening today, every day, and the younger generation is oblivious to it. Things are going to hell in a hand basket and the politicians are getting rich while everything past generations slaved for are being sold off to the highest bidder.

But this thread is about what REALLY pisses you off. The fact that our country is falling apart, that the USA is falling apart, that the world is falling apart, is secondary. What I wanna do is overturn the grocery cart of the fat ignorant bitch who blocks the aisle at the grocery store and says "Sorry." when she realizes I am waiting for her to move her fat ass. I wanna say, "No, you are NOT sorry... you are unmannerly and ignorant." But I don't, because I am polite. Well... when I take Mum out to the shops.

Gnu, is it possible that he was desperate for the job and nervous? When you are selling something and times are tough common sense can fail.

I think you handled it as well as you could bringing him back to the point of the call.

So, you own a lot of nice and expensive things, you claim you know rich and influencial people, you have vacationed in nice places, you own an expensive cottage, with the works that's by a lake, your pets are expensive, your kids have gone to good schools, married well, have influential friends and nice kids, and now have good jobs...

You should know that I respect Canadians for what they have done, right? Like Vimy Ridge and Dieppe and which beach was it -- Juno? Or that every time I've been Up North I've met nice folks except for one idiot in Montreal who told me he didn't speak English, so I replied in French that was a great pity because now I'd have to take my business to another gas station? What really pisses me off is when some careless idiot explodes a nuclear warhead right over my favorite fishing spot. Last time it happened the fish glowed in the dark for months. You couldn't eat 'em. Gave 'em to kids to use for safety lights while they went trick-or-treating. (Worked better than glo-sticks.)

Here in the UK one of many things that PMO is the f***ing National Lottery. You see Lottery tickets are sold in newsagents shops and now, if you want to buy a newspaper, forget about it!! There's always some brain dead cretin at the counter spending a million pounds on tickets and 'scratchcards', or getting their tickets checked, or fumbling around in their pockets or purses for money, or there's some sort of glitch with the machinery, or the cretin behind the counter STILL doesn't seem to know how to operate the machinery ten years after it was installed in the shop ... and all I f***ing want is a f***ing newspaper!!!!!

The only fact that I have to console myself with is that the Lottery is a tax on stupidity.
