Anyone know of a song about a man meeting a veteran at the Vietnam Memorial, and finding out the veteran's a ghost? Been bugging me for literally 15, 20 years.
Thanks.

Yeah, I was surprised, too, Adrien.

I did find a song, apparently performed by George Jones, but this version is by its author, Jamie O'Hara: 50,000 Names.

I see there is also a link to the website for the MEMORIAL with a search function. If we can't find the song, I'll bet somewhere on that site will know of it.

Subject: Lyr Add: THE WALL (Don Lange)
From: oldhippie
Date: 25 Oct 10 - 06:21 PM

Not an exact match, but could you be thinking of this one?

THE WALL
(Don Lange)

Some say the wall is like a wing, some say it's like a V
some say it stands for peace, some say for victory
some say it's rising from the ground, some say it's sinking low
some say that war can kill you a decade down the road

There's fifty-thousand names
carved upon that wall
and so many souls were scarred {chorus
we couldn't count them all

A man is washed in moonlight, walking toward the wall
a veteran of Vietnam, he can't tell what he saw
he can't tell what he did and 'though he's got some scars
his troubled heart brings him here tonight after 12 long years

He stares into black granite, glimpses of his face
reflected back in moonlight. He thinks he sees his name
there with all the others, ringing in the stone
he puts his forehead to the wall, then he draws the gun

When morning broke upon the wall another man had died
a victim of your conscience, a victim of the pride
of patriots and patriarchs and politicians will
there is no peace with honor, that war is raging still

Subject: Lyr Add: THERE'S A WALL IN WASHINGTON (Iris DeMent
From: open mike
Date: 25 Oct 10 - 06:26 PM

Here are the lyrics to Iris DeMent's song

THERE'S A WALL IN WASHINGTON
(Iris DeMent)

There's a wall in Washington
and it's made of cold black granite
They say 60,000 names are etched there in it
in that wall in Washington

A father, he traveled from far away
to walk the path 'til he finds that name
He reaches his hand up and traces each letter
The tears they fall as his memories gather
for the boy who filled his heart with pride
is now but a name that's been etched
in the side of this wall in Washington

A mother she traveled from far away
to walk the path 'til she finds that name
She reaches her hand up and traces each letter
The tears they fall as her memories gather
She feels the baby at her breast
but her heart it breaks because all that is left
is this wall in Washington

A boy, he traveled from far away
to walk the path 'til he finds that name
He reaches his hand up and traces each letter
He stares at the name of his unknown father
His heart is young and it's filled with pain
in anger he cries out

"Who is to blame for this wall in Washington
that's made of cold black granite?
Why is my father's name etched here in it
in this wall in Washington?"

"Touch a Name on the Wall" by Joel Mabus is another fine Vietnam Memorial song: click here for lyrics

No ghost but it is a haunting song.
