Subject: BS: Tweeters sued for defamatory comments From: Arthur_itus Date: 12 Nov 10 - 10:02 AM Well it klooks like if you are a twit er, you could be sued for defamatory comments. More and more people are being taken to court due to offensive and defamatory twittering. Media lawyer, Paul Gilbert, joined BBC Breakfast to make clear that tweeters can be sued for defamatory comments whilst comedian David Schneider believes it is all about the context of the comment. All I can say is "About Time" |

Subject: RE: BS: Tweeters sued for defamatory comments From: Richard Bridge Date: 12 Nov 10 - 10:37 AM That's all very well, but when is for example fakebook going to have automatically to reveal the people behind fake fakebook pages? Actually, I think the verb is not "to twitter" but "to tweet". |

" I had exactly the same thoughts Richard. Maybe this is just the start. Why is Twiiter the only one. All social networks should be treated the same. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tweeters sued for defamatory comments From: Richard Bridge Date: 13 Nov 10 - 11:39 AM Come to that I know another website where a coward hiding behind a nom-de-plume is allowed to spout excrement, and the site operator and mods refuse to reveal his IP address or log his MAC numbers - indeed I can think of several posters there who have done that, some spreading accusations of paedophilia and bestiality, some openly threatening people and events opposed to the excrement they spouted. And no-one can sue the cowards because the site operator and mods will not log and reveal those things. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tweeters sued for defamatory comments From: VirginiaTam Date: 13 Nov 10 - 11:57 AM There is a fake on yahoo buzz, using a stolen picture of me. Member since October 2009. I have written (snail mail) to Yahoo per their instructions back in June asking that it be removed. Well the person perpetrating the fake has not posted since July, but the page is still there with vile, racist posts and indicating that most folk musicians from the UK are of like mind as those posts. Includes responses to yahoo buzz fakes of UK friends from Mudcat. Perhaps I will resend the letter which had to include a photograph of me, along with proof of my identity and my signature, one more time with a threat that if they do not remove the offending account, I will see a lawyer and citing Twitter lawsuits as precedent. |
