Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: GUEST,999 Date: 28 Nov 10 - 05:17 PM Unable to access computer on Monday. If Rapp responds I will have to reply on Tuesday. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: gnu Date: 28 Nov 10 - 05:34 PM There's the post back... somebody is fuckin with me? Stop it as I shant respond again. Nor do I wish to play chess with anyone. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: ollaimh Date: 28 Nov 10 - 11:48 PM well i just thought it made some sense. i am thinking of asking the peple at that club to do a folk night as well--will need moncton folk musicians |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: gnu Date: 29 Nov 10 - 02:37 PM ollaimh... sorry for my harsh response. I messed up. Still not interested in chess. Can't play any instruments anymore. Musicians can be found by visiting (among others) The Old Triangle. My cousins sometimes do a few songs when Phil McNally plays there. But, don't mention my name to any of them. They're Irish eh? |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: saulgoldie Date: 29 Nov 10 - 04:36 PM RxB! |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Jeri Date: 29 Nov 10 - 05:43 PM Refresh. 999 will be sad if tomorrow comes around and Rap hasn't made any moves on him... I don't think that's exactly what I meant, but you get the picture. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: ollaimh Date: 29 Nov 10 - 08:44 PM again i spent the better part of a day playing that program at speed rates. very fun but it will hurt you if you play ta\ctics first--as i like to-- i played many kings gambits and won a few but mostly it punished me. it was weaker at queen side openings and at other positional openings but that was boring, i can't believe how strong chess program have gotten over the last two decades. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Joe_F Date: 29 Nov 10 - 08:46 PM When the game is over, the king and the pawn go into the same box. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: gnu Date: 29 Nov 10 - 08:58 PM saulgoldie... I find your post rude. I hope that nobody else posts comments or suggestions regarding the game in progress between these titans in the first Annual Mudcat Café Chess Campionship be they founded or unfounded. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: gnu Date: 29 Nov 10 - 09:00 PM I am posting again quickly to hopefully ensure that my post above does not go missing again... lost over a half dozen posts this week. Hope this works. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Lizzie Cornish 1 Date: 30 Nov 10 - 03:54 AM My Dad would always start his game with anyone by *giving* them his Queen. He'd then go on to beat every single person he ever played. He'd be at least 4 or 5 moves ahead of his opponent, able to work out which move they'd make. It used to drive me bats playing with him sometimes, because he'd take so long to make a move, but now I realise he was going through every available move either side could or would make and deciding the best option. Never saw him beaten by anyone. For Bruce and Gnu :0) |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: GUEST,999 Date: 30 Nov 10 - 02:09 PM Could be Rapp`s tied up. Life happens despite chess. I shall check back tomorrow. Hope things are OK for all of you. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: gnu Date: 30 Nov 10 - 02:46 PM Probably still tryin ta sort out them fancy Korean chess pieces. They'd look all the same to me. I know, I know... |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Slag Date: 30 Nov 10 - 03:15 PM I receeded from the game when I learned that: E4- White wins by force. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Slag Date: 30 Nov 10 - 03:17 PM Hey! That was 64! I guess that covers just about everything! |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: GUEST,999 Date: 01 Dec 10 - 11:26 AM Refresh one time. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: GUEST,John from Kemsing Date: 01 Dec 10 - 12:22 PM Gnu, In response to your opening question try the "WINBOARD CHESS" programme. It takes some beating. Maybe one of these fine days I may just do that but then again, I may not!! |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: gnu Date: 01 Dec 10 - 02:17 PM John... thanks for the heads up. I googled it and also noticed this. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: gnu Date: 03 Dec 10 - 02:39 PM My chessmen are getting board. C'mon Rap. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Rapparee Date: 03 Dec 10 - 05:32 PM I'll get there, I'll get there. In the meantime, check. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: GUEST,999 Date: 04 Dec 10 - 09:06 AM I`m a bit confused, Rapp. Check HOW? |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: gnu Date: 04 Dec 10 - 10:55 AM Check WHAT? |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Rapparee Date: 04 Dec 10 - 11:05 AM I had to write a check. Several, in fact. Bills, you know. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: GUEST,999 Date: 04 Dec 10 - 11:32 AM Oh, a cheque. Now I understand. I think. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Rapparee Date: 04 Dec 10 - 02:51 PM It's a check, mate! |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: gnu Date: 04 Dec 10 - 04:05 PM Improper use of check when one means cheque dismays Her Majesty. However, such is a relatively minor tort and carries no punishment of magnitude such as incarcreation or capital punishment, albeit debatable as to whether this should be the case, so you may be allowed to continue your match with 999. But, I'd pick up the pace if I were you on acconta Betty gets really pissed about tardiness in any form. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Slag Date: 04 Dec 10 - 04:06 PM ...saith the Eschequier! |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: gnu Date: 04 Dec 10 - 04:13 PM B saw my last post almost immediately as one of her minions has been set to monitoring this thread for her amusement. Her loyal servant emailed me directly thereafter with a directive to convey to you, Rap, to wit... "Shit or get off the pot eh." |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Rapparee Date: 04 Dec 10 - 08:46 PM I played lots of chess with the women when I was in college. It didn't matter who won, it always ended in mate. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Slag Date: 05 Dec 10 - 01:29 AM Stalemate?? |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: GUEST,999 Date: 05 Dec 10 - 11:25 AM Win or loose (Little Hawk, don`t bother), this is a fun thread. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Rapparee Date: 05 Dec 10 - 12:29 PM Yeah, I remember them days well -- playing chest in the girls' dorm, spending the knight pawn each other, moving en passant and being checked by the queen when visiting hours were over...ah, yes. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: gnu Date: 05 Dec 10 - 01:32 PM Someone's gettin rooked here. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: gnu Date: 05 Dec 10 - 01:35 PM Rap. I'll get you started... KK to |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Beer Date: 05 Dec 10 - 03:26 PM Maybe you heard it before. ad. "So I was having dinner with a Grand Master - Problem was, we had a checkered tablecloth and it took him two hours to pass the salt!" |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: gnu Date: 05 Dec 10 - 03:37 PM Hehehehee... never heard it. Thanks. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Slag Date: 05 Dec 10 - 07:46 PM Hey, who uses the old notation? Go algebraic. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Rapparee Date: 05 Dec 10 - 08:20 PM Alright now! My board is set up. KP -> K4 C'mon, ya chickens! |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Rapparee Date: 05 Dec 10 - 10:44 PM Come out ye Canadians Come out and fight me like you're men Show the world how you can play chess like a Russian Show 'em how you check and mate 'Gainst a Yank with a clean slate On a lovely BS thread on the Mudcat.... |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Rapparee Date: 06 Dec 10 - 10:18 AM I guess my opening moves scared everyone so much they've given up. Well, I sort of expected that. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: gnu Date: 06 Dec 10 - 10:26 AM 999 will be along. Have patience. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Rapparee Date: 06 Dec 10 - 10:28 AM Remember, I once played against a guy who played on the same chess team as Bobby Fisher. Not at the same time, however.... |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Jeri Date: 06 Dec 10 - 10:34 AM Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Rapparee Date: 06 Dec 10 - 02:07 PM Well, okay. This time.... |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Slag Date: 06 Dec 10 - 07:33 PM I remember the story of the amazing Dr. Alekine who was not exactly known in the sporting world for his cheery attitude and sportsmanship, and who, when he lost a game to a duffer, picked up his fallen king, upset the chessboard and hurled the king into the nearest wall, smashing it to bits and exclaiming "I know I must lose! God know's I must lose but WHY MUST I LOSE TO THIS IDIOT?!!". That kinda sounds like my brand of chess. Then there's the Calvin and Hobbs variety but it involves helmets, ballbats, gloves and pencils without erasers. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: gnu Date: 06 Dec 10 - 07:46 PM It actually would be more of a Canuck game if full contact checking was allowed. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: gnu Date: 06 Dec 10 - 08:15 PM Hmmm... I just went to my board to update the present match. YOU CAD! Ere ye gonna play or default? |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Rapparee Date: 06 Dec 10 - 09:37 PM Because I was traveling and then was quite, quite busy digging out from under two-plus weeks of being away, I re-started. If you will be good enough to post the positions I will take it from that point. Note that I am trusting you on this. I can't imagine you'd take advantage of a poor, ignorant Yank like myself just to provide an advantage to some fellow Canadian. Remember, Canadians are well known for being nice, and if you aren't nice we'll just have to either invade you again or shut off your beer supply. |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: gnu Date: 06 Dec 10 - 10:27 PM The positions are already on this thread. You can read them as well as anybody else. "... invade you again or shut off your beer supply." ??? We invaded you. We burnt your capitol and took your tea service and have it in our national museum. When you "tried" to invade we erected a statue of Brock giving you the finger. Of course, it wasn't really "we". It was the Brits. Canucks would never do anything like that. We are far too polite. Except when it comes to beer. Shut off our beer supply? It is too laugh. Now, play fair. 999 deserves a worthy opponent. The Queen B is not amused and you know what happens when she loses her patience. You don't want her to invade and take your chess pieces too, do you? |
Subject: RE: BS: New chess thread From: Rapparee Date: 06 Dec 10 - 10:33 PM With the Idaho Legion behind me? Il est a rire! Besides, I've completely cut the Royals off and if they come on my property I'll set the dogs on them (borrowed dachshunds nipping at their ankles)! After that stormy night in Scotland, when we were motoring through Balmoral and they never so much as offered a cup of tea...well, it was then I knew What Sort Of People they were and that their Raisin' Up left something to be desired. |
