Subject: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: alanabit Date: 07 Dec 10 - 04:44 AM I may not live long enough to ever experience this again, so here is a celebratory thread for English cricketers. I have not felt so proud to be British since Jeffrey Archer was sent to prison! |

Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Arnie Date: 07 Dec 10 - 04:59 AM Just managed to get the win in before the rain came down - great timing! Swann has his richly deserved fifer, but all the bowling attack played their part magnificently. Wonder if the Aussies will invite Shane Warne back for the 3rd Test? They could do much worse.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Backwoodsman Date: 07 Dec 10 - 06:24 AM It was a delight watching that arrogant, sour-faced, sore-loser, bad-sport, Ponting's face all the way through the match. I don't normally enjoy seeing sportsmen humiliated, but this one made me hug myself with joy. Having said that, I like the rest of the Oz team (except maybe Siddle, who seems also to be sour-faced and arrogant but, nevertheless, is a great bowler), and I hope they pull it round and make it a series to remember (but with England winning the series of course). BRING IT ON!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Arthur_itus Date: 07 Dec 10 - 06:56 AM Excellent performance from England. The bowlers, fielders and the batsmen were a credit. I always love England defeating Australia, even if it's by one run. Cracking to watch. Shame Stuart Broad was injured. I guess that Tim Bresnan will take over. I would love to see England win the next 3 tests as well. It would make up for all the drubbings they have given us over the years. |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: A Wandering Minstrel Date: 07 Dec 10 - 08:14 AM Hurray Hurray Hurray An excellent strategy and nicely unfolded, only spoiled by the injury to Stuart Broad. and I got to bed by 1am :) |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Arthur_itus Date: 07 Dec 10 - 08:15 AM hmm Beefy, Bumble and Nass think that Tremlett should be in, becuase Perth favours tall thump it in bowlers. |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Les from Hull Date: 07 Dec 10 - 09:12 AM Well I think that Tim Bresnan or Ajmal Shazad should get a go. An England team without a Yorkshireman in it is like (enter own appropriate simile here). |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Banjo-Flower Date: 07 Dec 10 - 09:50 AM An England team without a Yorkshireman in it is like "Heaven" sez Gerry a true Lincolnshire Yellerbelly |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: goatfell Date: 07 Dec 10 - 11:52 AM as a Scotsman, I'm glad that England won the match. |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Arthur_itus Date: 07 Dec 10 - 11:55 AM An England team without a Warwickshire man is hardly worth thinking of. Just Trott down there and ring the Bell. A true Brummie |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: alanabit Date: 07 Dec 10 - 11:55 AM My goodness! It does not get any better than that! |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Arthur_itus Date: 07 Dec 10 - 12:00 PM Whilst everybody played really well, I am so enthused about having Swann in the team. We finally have a player that can turn the game in terms of the bowling. How often have we seen our quickies get wickets and nobody has been able to capitalise on that. He is as good as Shane Warne. |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: GUEST,Alan Whittle Date: 07 Dec 10 - 01:51 PM 'He is as good as Shane Warne. ' Unlikely. But we shall see. |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Les from Hull Date: 07 Dec 10 - 02:43 PM We don't need anybody from a minor county telling us who should be in the team, Gerry. |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Banjo-Flower Date: 07 Dec 10 - 02:56 PM Yeah but we're a Major county when it comes to winding up Yorkies Les next time you visit the Minerva stand outside with you're back to the South wall and you'll see the finest sight in Yorkshire "North Lincoln shire" Cheers Les your turn Gerry |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 07 Dec 10 - 03:22 PM Well, it makes it more of an occasion next time the Australians win, rather than just routine. |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Les from Hull Date: 07 Dec 10 - 04:37 PM I can see the same view from my living room window! We have a monthly session in the Minerva (next one is next Tuesday night). Anyway a proper Yellowbelly would know that it's really called Parts of Lindsey. |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Steve Shaw Date: 07 Dec 10 - 04:45 PM Just for once we appeared to have snatched victory from the jaws of victory. I just can't stop myself from taking positive after positive. |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Banjo-Flower Date: 07 Dec 10 - 06:52 PM Nah not "Parts of Lindsey" Les just Lindsey carry this on termorra Les OK Gerry |

Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Arnie Date: 08 Dec 10 - 05:32 AM Re my earlier posting, I hear today that there is an online petition running in Oz to bring back Shane Warne for the Perth test! As one Aussie put it - he can't do any worse than the present lot. As Warne has just touched down in the UK today, I suspect that coming out of playing retirement is not top of his 'to do' list. Anyway, if he does then we'll ask Cap'n Beefy the Oz slayer to wield the willow again :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Backwoodsman Date: 08 Dec 10 - 06:30 AM No need to drag Beefy away from his Shredded Wheat - Cap'ns Cooke, Finn, Swann and Pieterson, The Young Oz-Slayers, seem to be doing a pretty good job. |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Arthur_itus Date: 08 Dec 10 - 06:38 AM hear hear With steady performaces from Bell and Trott (even if I don't like his fidgetting and farting about) |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Les from Hull Date: 08 Dec 10 - 09:19 AM Until the 1974 Local Government reorganisation forced on us by the nasty Tories, it was known as Parts of Lindsey, Gerry. As us Yorkies were forced into an unholy alliance with the Yellerbellies, most of us kept on calling our bit East Yorkshire. What they call your council shouldn't affect the name of your home. Anyway, I still like Lincs. Maggie and I spent last weekend there and it was great. And getting back to cricket, one of Yorkshire's greatest captains and administrators, Lord Hawke, was a Lincolnshire man - in spite of Yorkshire's boast to only employ their own. |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Alan Day Date: 08 Dec 10 - 11:27 AM Great win !! Even Beefy has beaten up Greg Chappell, it cannot get much better. Poor old Ponting's nails are already chewed down to the quick. Where does he go from here? Aussies are however great fighters they will not go out with a whimper. Al |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Arthur_itus Date: 08 Dec 10 - 11:42 AM At least Beefy says what he thinks about the Aussies :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Banjo-Flower Date: 08 Dec 10 - 01:12 PM O k Les I'll let off seeing as how you have'nt denied having the finest view in Yorkshire from your living room window Best wishes and Merry Christmas Mate I may get to the Minerva session one day but not in winter Gerry |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: G-Force Date: 08 Dec 10 - 02:07 PM Siddle sour-faced? He was beaming from ear to ear when he played the ball on to his stumps and the bails didn't fall off (about 10 runs before the end). |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Backwoodsman Date: 08 Dec 10 - 02:22 PM Must have had wind. |

Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: alanabit Date: 10 Dec 10 - 10:09 AM I loved it! |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: alanabit Date: 10 Dec 10 - 10:14 AM I still fear that normality will return quickly and that England will be sent home with the usual ritually tanned hides. Victories against Australia are a bit like finding a rose on a dung heap. It is nice when it happens, but it is not in the natural order of things! |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Arthur_itus Date: 10 Dec 10 - 03:32 PM Defeatist Alanabit. England will retain the Ashes. The Aussies are grasping at straws now. His wind wasn't strong enough BWM :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Arnie Date: 11 Dec 10 - 06:00 AM The Aussies must be getting desparate - they've just named Michael Beer as part of the squad. He's a left-arm spinner who's never played in a Test match and has a fairly mediocre record in first-class cricket. Obviously not much coming through their much-vaunted cricket academy these days. |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Arthur_itus Date: 11 Dec 10 - 12:46 PM The Aussies are crapping themselves Arnie. Great, I love it :-) That's a bummer, next weeks test starts at 2:00am or a bit later in the morning. I liked the other 2 test because they started around 11:30pm. |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: alanabit Date: 11 Dec 10 - 01:11 PM We will see Arthur. No one will be happier than I if there is a bizarre outcome to the series. |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Arthur_itus Date: 11 Dec 10 - 02:42 PM bizarre being the Aussies winning the Ashes back :-) I don't think so, because that would be bizzare! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXQ6n95AsN0 hmmm don't you just love it. :-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Arthur_itus Date: 11 Dec 10 - 04:10 PM I could watch that over and over again :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: alanabit Date: 11 Dec 10 - 05:43 PM No. England won the Second Test and won it well. Jolly hard luck to anyone who did not like it! |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Arnie Date: 16 Dec 10 - 06:18 AM Still early days, but it looks like England are laying the foundations of a win at Perth - the Aussie top-order batsmen simply folded and it was just was well that Hussey steadied the ship for them. We haven't beaten the Aussies at Perth since 1978 so victory here will be sweet indeed - as well as guaranteeing that we keep the Ashes. It won't do much good for Ricky Ponting's career though...... |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: Arthur_itus Date: 16 Dec 10 - 07:16 AM Great day out in the field for the English. Finally giving the Aussies a dose of their own medicine. I don't think they like it :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Shock! Horror! Poms win in Oz! From: A Wandering Minstrel Date: 16 Dec 10 - 07:58 AM Excellent first day and Collingwood once again pulling off a blinding catch to addd to Pontings woe. Thought we rather let them get away in the afternoon session. to let them get to 250 suggests that there is a lot of batting coming on this wicket. |
