Subject: Lyr Add: DIGGY LIGGY LO (Savoy/Doucet Cajun Band)
From: Bob Schwarer phideaux@msn.com
Date: 13 Apr 97 - 01:09 PM

I'll post them here for everyone, although this probably not the version you want. This one comes from Savoy/Doucet Cajun Band CD "Two Step d'Amede.

C'est ma soeur, Diggy Liggy La
Elle s'est mariee avec Diggy Liggy Lo
Pour rester dans le village.
Diggy Liggy Lo et Diggy Liggy La.

Diggy Liggy Lo 'trappe Po Po,
Diggy Liggy La tombe sur le plombeau,
Pour s'en va tout par tout,
Diggy Liggy Lo et Diggy Liggy La.
*********************************

Diggy Liggy La is my sister,
She married Diggy Liggy Lo,
So she could live in town,
Diggy Liggy LO and Diggy Liggy La.

Diggy Liggy Lo catches Po Po the horse,
Diggy Liggy La falls on the saddle horn,
To go ride around everywhere,
Diggy Liggy Lo and Digy Liggy La.

You really need to hear this sung by Ann Savoy.

The one you want is probably the Doug Kershaw version.

I don't have the energy to transcribe it now, but tomorrow is another day(if I can find the record). Maybe someone else will oblige

Bob S.

From: Gene Graham

Here's one version of it - by Buck Owens and Don Rich.

DIGGY LIGGY LO
Words and music J. D. Miller

Diggy Liggy Li and Diggy Liggy Lo
Fell in love at the fais-do-do.
The pop was cold and the coffee chaud
For Diggy Liggy Li and Diggy Liggy Lo.

REFRAIN: Diggy Liggy Li loved Diggy Liggy Lo.
Everyone knew he was her beau.
No one else could ever show
So much love for Diggy Liggy Lo.

There's a place they find romance,
Where they do the Cajun dance,
Steal a kiss with ev'ry chance,
Show their love with ev'ry glance. REFRAIN

Finally went to see her Pa.
Now he's got a Pa-in-law.
Moved out where the bayou's low.
Now he's got a little Diggy Liggy Lo. REFRAIN

Yup, back again where the class never fails! Looking for the lyrics to "Diggy Liggy Li" recorded by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (and others?). Its a goofy Cajun sorta tune, but I've never been able to get the words clearly. Can anyone help? Thanks!!! jester@buncombe.main.nc.us

I heard a band playing this old gospel blues tune in Cambridge, MA. Does anybody know the verses? Here's the chorus:

Ain't no grave
Gonna hold my body down
Ain't no grave
Gonna hold my body down.
When I hear that trumpet sound
Gonna rise up out of the ground
Ain't no grave
Gonna hold my body down.

Also, I'm looking for a Cajun tune, possibly by Hank Williams, about two people who fall in love. They have ridiculous names, something like:

Diggy Liggy Lie and Diggie Liggie Lo
Fell in love at the fete e d’oh (?)
No one else would ever know
So much love for Diggy Liggy Lo.

See "Copy of the lost threads 2" for the discussion a year or so ago - 2 versions there. I like Doug Kershaw's.

I have the accordion music for this but need the lyrics? I am learning the Cajun button accordion and need anything related to the Cajun or Zydeco Music. Brett

Metnorm,

Welcome to the Mudcat! You did a good thread title for your first song. You will find you get a quicker response if you post a separate thread for each song you request. This site gets thousands of hits daily, but not everyone looks at every thread. A title of Diggy Diggy Lo would have gotten a quick response. You thought it was Hank Williams. I did not think so, but I did think it was country. The best site I know of for country lyrics is the COWPIE Bunkhouse. I found the lyrics below listed there by searching for "Diggy diggy lo".

DIGGY LIGGY LO
Recorded by Buck Owens (with Don Rich on fiddle/vocal)
Words and music J. D. Miller

CAPO: 2nd Fret/KEY: A/PLAY: G
[G] Diggy Liggy Li and Diggy Liggy Lo
Fell in love at the [D7] fais-do-do
The pop was cold and the coffee *chaud
For Diggy Liggy Li and Diggy Liggy [G] Lo.

Refrain:
Diggy Liggy [C] Li loved Diggy Liggy Lo
Everyone [G] knew he was her beau
No one [D7] else could ever show
So much love for Diggy Liggy [G] Lo.

There's a place they find romance
Where they do the Cajun dance

Enjoy the music!
