Sure, everybody knows "Cheer, Cheer for Old Notre Dame" and "On, Wisconsin." But there are many fine "go, team" songs nobody knows, not even alumni of those particular institutions. Do you have a favorite unsung college fight song? I'll kick it if off with Detroit's Wayne State University.

The Maine Stein Song

Lift the steins to dear old Maine
Shout til the echos ring
Stand and drink a toast once again
Let every loyal Maine man sing,
Drink to all the happy hours
Drink to the careless days
Drink to Maine our Alma Mata
The college of our hearts always.

I thought The Maine Stein Song had been posted. It was, but it can't be located by these key words:
maine, Vallee, stein, no luck
.
Finally hit it with Non-BS:School Songs, posted by Ron Olesko back in 30 March 04.
Ron posted all three verses, not just the first.

School Songs

I used to have Rudy Vallee's recording many years ago.

Would Tom Lehrer's 'Fight Fiercely Harvard' count ?

A few years ago I happened to be in Cambridge (MA) on the day of the Harvard-Yale game, and the band marched past the little park on JFK St. where I was eating a sandwich. They were playing "Fight Fiercely, Harvard". I thought that was sporting of them.

I left out the other three verses on purpose. They strike me as superfluous.

One might extend the category by noting that lots of Frats (and Sororities) also had "fight songs" of their own.

I've seen a few of those, but none memorable enough to recall offhand.

John
