Subject: RE: BS: What did you have for breakfast? From: GUEST, topsie Date: 22 Jan 11 - 12:30 PM I remember, many many years ago, when there was still food rationing, we had some strange-tasting white butter that came in a tin, and that I was told came from Australia. I also remember having weetabix that didn't taste quite the same as weetabix - in fact it was nicer, and I can still remember the taste. Maybe that came from Australia too. Maybe it was weetbix. |

Subject: RE: BS: What did you have for breakfast? From: JennyO Date: 22 Jan 11 - 10:04 AM Weetbix - the genuine stuff from Oz which I sent over here. The box is nearly empty, so soon I'll have to start having Weetabix, which is the UK's imitation one - not much different in taste, but not quite as good - naturally! Followed that with a cup of tea and a nice piece of raisin toast with lots of butter. Yum! The tea also comes from Oz, and we're fast running out of that. There is a chain of tea places there called T2. They have a huge range of interesting teas. We usually drink decaffeinated, and we discovered one there which is called Daintree tea. It is naturally low in caffeine - actually lower than your normal decaffeinated tea, and has a lovely flavour. We make a pot of that first thing every morning. There's no equivalent here that I've found, so I suppose I'll have to get my son or daughter or someone in Sydney to send us some more - or wait till we visit in 2112. |

Subject: RE: BS: What did you have for breakfast? From: Janie Date: 21 Jan 11 - 10:00 PM No, I did not have chortle for breakfast. Coffee. Eventually. With canned milk. Because I kept forgetting to buy half-and-half. Eventually, because I also kept forgetting to buy coffee beans. Have a stash of stale Folger's ground coffee bought at the local convenience store sometime or other when I realized I was out of coffee at 11:00 pm. Had been making do with it for a couple of days. This morning, I poured water into the coffee maker, pulled out the basket to add the Folger's, opened the lid on the coffee grinder and scooped the ground coffee into there, slipped the empty coffee basket back over the pot, and made myself a full pot of hot water. Being as how I also kept forgetting to buy dish soap, once I finally succeeded in making a pot of stale coffee, I realized there was not a clean coffee cup in the house. Good thing I have heavy, thick-walled glasses. Rough morning. |
Subject: RE: BS: What did you have for breakfast? From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 21 Jan 11 - 09:54 PM 6 days a week I have half a cup of home made museli (commercial museli + puffed brown rice + bran + more oats + rice flakes + oat bran + rye flakes + sultanas, makes many jars & lasts a along time!), spoonfull of mixed linseeds & sunflower seeds, sliced banana with rice milk & spoonful of Omega-3 oil. I hard boiled egg + spoonful of baked beans. Assorted vitamins & minerals washed down with water & lemon juice. On Sunday I have brunch of 2 slices of toasty cheese with egg fried in non-stick pan on top, mushrooms all over, very large banana smoothie (1 banana + 1 small tub of yoghurt, 3 tubs of water & lots of skim milk powder, maybe cinnamon). Subject: RE: BS: What did you have for breakfast? From: Ed T Date: 21 Jan 11 - 05:29 PM :) I like sardines. I also like smoked salmon, especially the heat smoked type. There are few fish that I don't like, or would not consider eating for breakfast. The canned sardines were "in spring water" not in "olive oil", not that there is anyhing wrong with olive oil. I just like the young herring taste better, versus the overpowering olive oil taste. Two days ago I fried up the meat from two lobsters, in butter. I made a sandwitch with mao. Frying the lobster created an entirely different flavour. A few weeks ago, I made a clam chowder for breakfast...it was very good. |
