Subject: BS: Stop the Obscenity!!! From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 18 Feb 11 - 06:49 PM Please do whatever you can, spread the word, whatever, to STOP this obscenity !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jim Carrey, Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro are not the Stooges. The Stooges were and are Moe, Shemp, and Curly Howard, Larry Fine, Joe Besser, and Curly Joe DeRita. To suggest that casting can make an actor a Stooge is an outrage. |

Subject: RE: BS: Stop the Obscenity!!! From: Little Hawk Date: 18 Feb 11 - 07:00 PM Wow, that is pretty horrifying to contemplate! Sacrilege!!! They MUST be prevented from doing this! (this is a form of recreational outrage that I can relate to...) ;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Stop the Obscenity!!! From: Bill D Date: 18 Feb 11 - 07:28 PM well.... it's silly to promote them as anything remotely like the originals, but "obscenity" I would reserve for more serious issues. |

Subject: RE: BS: Stop the Obscenity!!! From: GUEST,Suibhne Astray Date: 18 Feb 11 - 07:36 PM Confession time: I enjoyed the TVM biopic. Talking about obscenity - I'm sure I've got a Three Stooges Tijuana Bible somewhere... |

Subject: RE: BS: Stop the Obscenity!!! From: Ebbie Date: 18 Feb 11 - 10:33 PM Ha, I say. I've known a couple of stooges in my time. |

Subject: RE: BS: Stop the Obscenity!!! From: LadyJean Date: 18 Feb 11 - 11:14 PM I hate the three stooges. Anything Moe did to Larry and Curly my sister did to me. I know what it all feels like. Why is bending somebody's finger backwards funny? It hurts like hell! The only stooge gag I ever laughed at was Cedric the trained clam. One it's a ridiculous idea, and two Cedric squirted water in somebody's face, which doesn't hurt, and is funny. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Stop the Obscenity!!! From: Little Hawk Date: 18 Feb 11 - 11:18 PM Did you know that Cedric the clam was repeatedly subjected to electric shock torture so that he would obediently squirt on cue? He finally committed suicide by jumping into a pot of boiling water, and the heartless cast of the Three Stooges then ate him!!! That is, Moe ate him...after smacking Larry in the face with a bent saw blade and stretching Curly's nose with the curved end of a crowbar. ;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Stop the Obscenity!!! From: Gurney Date: 19 Feb 11 - 09:54 PM IMO, it wouldn't be difficult for someone to be better than The Three Stooges. I wondered throughout my childhood why anyone would think they were funny, or clever. Goes double for Jim Carrey. But then, I have an Irish sense of humour, I think. |

Subject: RE: BS: Stop the Obscenity!!! From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 19 Feb 11 - 11:08 PM What they did was based on centuries old tradition - Commedia del Arte slapstick. Hence their appreciation by The Fooles Troupe. |

Subject: RE: BS: Stop the Obscenity!!! From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 20 Feb 11 - 12:09 AM I was amazed to discover that my kind-hearted and honorable husband loved the Stooges. I've decided that they must be a guy thing. Couldn't stand them, myself. |

Subject: RE: BS: Stop the Obscenity!!! From: Little Hawk Date: 20 Feb 11 - 12:18 AM Well, you have to realize when you see that sort of slapstick that it's sheer fantasy...same as those Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns...only from a different sort of angle. I enjoyed the 3 stooges when I was a kid, but I knew perfectly well that they were faking it with the fingerbending and head whacking and all that. It's like a Punch and Judy puppet show...obviously not real. The reason people laugh at that sort of thing (when it's in the form of slapstick humor) is that they feel a sense of relief that it isn't really happening...specially to them. Charlie Chaplin did a lot of that too. Remember the scene in the cabin with the mad trapper? |

Subject: RE: BS: Stop the Obscenity!!! (New 3 Stooges) From: Stilly River Sage Date: 20 Feb 11 - 12:18 AM I never liked the three stooges, but in this day of mediocre films, I'm not surprised someone is trying to remake them. I'm surprised any name actors would take it on, though. SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: Stop the Obscenity!!! (New 3 Stooges) From: Little Hawk Date: 20 Feb 11 - 12:29 AM Mediocre films have a long and lackluster history, Stilly. There were so many mediocre films in the 50s and 60s that you could line the reels from them up end to end in boxes and build another great wall of China. I'd say that most films then were mediocre, and most films now are mediocre....but maybe in different ways, that's all. |

Subject: RE: BS: Stop the Obscenity!!! (New 3 Stooges) From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 20 Feb 11 - 01:13 AM I have a great love of spaghetti westerns, not only the brilliant Clint Eastwood (plots stolen from Japanese films!) major ones and their soundtracks, but also the lesser ones - and also most of the sword and sandal ones. Then there are the Harryhausen animation ones... :-) Punch and Judy is similar to Commedia del Arte slapstick as is indeed those brilliant 1930/40 cartoons Merrie Melodies, and similar. You have to be able to intellectually separate fantasy from reality. |

Subject: RE: BS: Stop the Obscenity!!! (New 3 Stooges) From: GUEST,Guest from Sanity Date: 20 Feb 11 - 02:05 AM Personally, I rather preferred 'Laurel and Hardy'... As a side note, Did you know that 'The Music Box', also called, 'The Piano Movers' (Laurel and Hardy) written and filmed in 1931, and released in '32, was the first comedy to win an Academy Award? It was only 20 minutes long. GfS |
