You can hear this song at YouTube. It is the second of 2 songs in that "video." There's only one expression that puzzles me, in verse 4, and I would appreciate it if anyone could either explain it or correct it. And of course, please let me know if I made any other mistakes in this transcription.

As sung by Harry Champion

1. I met a young lady one night at a dance.
I said, "Let me kiss you. Oh, give me the chance!
What is your name? Is it Gertie or Flo?"
She said, "Well, the people all call me you know,

CHORUS: "The girl with the golden hair."
I'm glad my old girl wasn't there,
For under a palm I kept pinching the arm
Of the girl with the golden hair. REPEAT.

SPOKEN: Nice girl!

2. I said to her, "Will you partake of an ice?"
She said, "Well, I've heard they're supposed to be nice."
She gave me a smile and she said with a wink:
"I think I would sooner go in for a drink."

CHORUS: The girl with the golden hair,
She knew how to drink, I declare.
She shifted the scotch and then shifted me watch
Did the girl with the golden hair. REPEAT.

SPOKEN: Nice girl!

3. Last summer at Brighton I had such a spree!
I taught a young lady to swim in the sea.
She said, "Oh, me chins(?) for I'm getting on fine."
No doubt you have guessed at the girl in the brine:

CHORUS: The girl with the golden hair!
"While swimming," she said, "you beware!
For you don't want to go to the bottom, you know,
With the girl with the golden hair." REPEAT.

SPOKEN: Nice girl!

4. I went to the water the following day.
My missus was with me, I'm sorry to say.
I felt a bit vexed that I'd got her with me,
For turning a somersault there in the sea

CHORUS: [Was] the girl with the golden hair!
My wife said, "Those two boats out there,
They belong to the fleet." I said, "No, they're the feet
Of girl with the golden hair." REPEAT.

SPOKEN: Nice girl!

5. Now once she was booked for a pantomime show.
She got in the ballet, the very first row.
She earned a bare living there every night.
The clothes she appeared in were scanty and slight.

CHORUS: The girl with the golden hair
In the ballet had little to wear,
For she went to rehearse with her clothes in her purse
Did the girl with the golden hair. REPEAT.
