It has been pointed out to me that my last sex change could be viewed as manipulative and, in some ways, not a very nice thing to do at all.

Well, I have always been one to take criticism seriously and I have taken all comments on board and decided that, after a VERY brief jaunt with the dark side I am going to go back to my roots.

I have had it sown back on - The BEARD of course, what else did you think? I have dusted off my fishing rod and am now back to where I started.

I hope no-one will be too confused at this and, seeing as I have only been away for a matter of days, I hope that no-one has fallen in love with Polly in the meanwhile...

I like the name "Dave the Gnome." It's clever and colorful, and sounds friendly. Glad to have you back in your original identity, Dave.

While it may not always be the case, people who change their names at Mudcat with no apparent reason, are viewed by many as manipulative and less than honest. Pick a good name when you join. If you decide to change it, do so with trepidation. If you really do have to change your name, do as Dave did and change only your name - don't open a new membership.

By coincidence, I was at an art festival this past weekend which features a decidedly odd-ball parade as part of the festivities. The last bunch to come parading by was a troop of about a hundred gnomes, each carrying a sign with a gnome-based pun.

Dave - the very first gnome to be made in this country is under a glass dome in Lamport Hall in Northamptonshire.

I've seen it with my own eyes. It's a sort of Mitochindrial Eve of gnomes (from around 1840), and therefore probably an ancestor of yours...

The snobbish Royal Horticultural Society banned gnomes from any entry in the garden displays at the Chelsea Flower Show. Anyone putting a gnome in among the flowers would immediately be disqualified. Silly stuck-up twits! Gnomes are much-loved, and essential to any garden, IMO. Bring your fishing rod, Dave, and come and stand in my garden, you're most welcome!

Off to Betws-y-Coed for the first time in over 40 years today! I remember being 16 there and surprised how easy it was to get served in pubs. We drank cider and bitter at the time - an early form of 'snake bite'. I hope they have got their acts together and don't serve oiks like us now :-)

Asda currently have a pair of plain clay Garden Gnomes in a kit with paints! I'm going to get some and paint them up. I think I might have a biker gnome and a hippy gnome, or maybe a raver gnome or even a kinky BDSM gnome :)

Just checked - the original Lamport gnome ("Lampy") was brought into the country with 20 others from Germany.
