My neighbor had a mom woodchuck and four youngens living under her porch. The babies are weened so they are eating grass. Problem was they were eating my neighbors flower garden. Her husband was going to wack em with his rifle. I said no ... put out my live traps and got every one of them with carrots and lettuce. They are now living in the field and quite happy. My gosh the baby woodchucks are so cute. They just let me release them and away they went, the mom was quite upset ... I went back and all four of them are together munching the high weeds in the back fields ..

I always thought a woodchuck was some kind of bird!! (sorry, very ignorant!) After reading your delightful posting, I just looked up some photos on Google, and it's a dear little rodent a bit like a miniature beaver! Also, I didn't realise (ignorant again!) that another word for them is groundhog. Always thought a groundhog was a small pig! You did ever so well, olddude to save this little family. I've got a big one living under my shed. Last time I startle it, it ran back under and I could see it sticking its head out to watch me. Gutsy little (not so much) SOB!

Thanks, but it would be too much hassle. I can rent one here for less than what it probably would cost to send yours. Plus, if he eats my neighbor's garden, my neighbor (who also thinks he's cute... so far) will take care of the problem. So far, he's just munching my weeds. Also-- so far-- there's only one.

The babies are so darn cute. I picked up the one in the second photo and just set her down and away she went, wasn't stress didn't try to bite was just OH well ok, I can live here ... my gosh adorable little girl

I had three adorable little woodchucks eat up my brand new vegetable garden just about this time last year. Oooo, I was mad! But just about this time last year, we heard the coyotes in the woods at night. And suddenly we saw no more baby woodchucks! Awww, too bad.

OK, the kitten is cute, but the sloths are cuter. By the way, our dog doesn't think woodchucks are cute at all, he thinks they're delicious. Also, they are the members of the rodent family most likely to carry rabies. But yeah, the babies are cute.
