Subject: e.e.cummings From: Peter Timmerman - ptimmerman@ifias.ca Date: 25 Apr 97 - 02:41 PM Someone last week was looking for e.e. cummings lyrics set to music. Another example: "All in green went my love riding" arranged (and composed I guess) by Peter Schickele (PDQB) and sung by Joan Baez on the Lovesong Album (Vanguard re-releases). |
Subject: RE: e.e.cummings From: Charlie Baum Date: 27 Apr 97 - 01:27 AM The original "all in green went my love riding" set by Peter Schickele was on Joan Baez/"Baptism: A Journey Through Our Time", Vanguard (VSD79275)--I've got the vinyl version from my youth. Vincent Persichetti set another e.e. cummings poem to music: "sam was a man". And I've been singing "anyone lived in a pretty how town" to the shaped-note tune of Jefferson. (The tune fits very well, but it's NOT an easy poem to memorize!)

Subject: RE: e.e.cummings From: Peter Timmerman Date: 28 Apr 97 - 03:36 PM Coincidentally, in today's New York Times there is a reference to a song version by Laura Elise Schwendinger of "in just-spring" as sung by Dawn Upshaw. |
