Subject: BS: Peanut butter From: gnu Date: 30 Jun 11 - 09:09 PM Kraft smooth or crunchy... Skippy whatever... there are soooo many. Barbour's "Original" made in Sussex, New Brunswick, Canada is REAL peanut butter. It's not full of crap... it's full of nuts. I feel very strongly and care very deeply about this. What's yer fav? I have a couple of toasted slices of cracked wheat bread with peanut butter most every night (9 or 10) as it levels out the blood sugar. Dunno why but my diabetic buddy told me it works that way for him and I LOVE peanuts. Can't eat them any more on accounta they are hard to digest and they make me stemmie and I really don't need that. So... what's yer fav brand any why? Yes, I know. Sue me. Especially if you read this boring post this far. Noy mu fault is it? |
Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: Jack the Sailor Date: 30 Jun 11 - 09:13 PM I eat Smuckers. Listed ingredients, Peanuts, Salt. |
Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: bobad Date: 30 Jun 11 - 09:16 PM Don't eat it much myself but we give some to our dog every day -- President's Choice "Just Peanuts" no sugar or salt added -- he likes it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: GUEST,Jon Date: 30 Jun 11 - 09:17 PM My teeth are too bad for my preferred crunchy these days so we get smooth. Never really thought much about different brands except we did have one I didn't like. We usually get Sun-Pat which I think must be the most common one in the UK. |
Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 30 Jun 11 - 09:36 PM Why eat Kraft's etc. when pure peanut butter (just a touch of salt) is readily available? Canada has detailed food labels that show the ingredients in a food product, so selection is a matter of reading the label. |
Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: number 6 Date: 30 Jun 11 - 10:30 PM That Costco brand ..... nothing but organic U.S.A. peanuts. President's Choice Just Peanuts (what Bobad mentioned above) is also very good. biLL |
Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: ChanteyLass Date: 30 Jun 11 - 10:39 PM I'm not brand loyal, but I usually buy organic unsalted PB that has a label that reads "Ingredients: Organic Peanuts." PB and olive oil are my two "good fats." |

Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 01 Jul 11 - 02:07 AM I make my own. I buy crushed peanuts co they are easier to break down when I them in the blender on coffee bean speed (I don't have a fancy food processor), add cooking oil (currently canola oil, sometime other type) & eat! yum sandra (eating crakers & PB) Crushed nuts are found in supermarket with cake-making supplies |
Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: Ebbie Date: 01 Jul 11 - 03:02 AM Some years back, supermarkets in the US had a machine that made peanut butter on the spot. Haven't seen one in years. |

Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: frogprince Date: 01 Jul 11 - 09:58 AM Trust me on this: if you discover that the little tube of lubricant is empty, and you need a substitute, don't use crunchy. |
Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: EBarnacle Date: 01 Jul 11 - 02:28 PM I avoid the salt. I suspect the reason the peanut butter makers have largely disappeared is that many boards of health require that they be disassembled and cleaned each night. Take it from me, even 40 years ago, it was not a pleasant job. |
Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: olddude Date: 01 Jul 11 - 03:01 PM Never met peanut butter I didn't like. I will consume the whole jar of anything ... love the stuff |
Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: ChanteyLass Date: 01 Jul 11 - 11:05 PM Ebbie, Whole Foods in RI have peanut butter machines that customers can use. A few years ago my son, grandson, and I went to FL and discovered supermarkets in that state had those machines, too, but I hadn't been able to find PB with no salt on the shelves so an employee brought me the plastic tub of PB. Looking at the label, I asked about it and he told me he had made it on the spot for me, so I don't know if the machine was available for customers to use or behind the scenes for employees to use. I've never used one of those machines myself, though--not at Whole Foods prices! |
Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: catspaw49 Date: 01 Jul 11 - 11:18 PM The way Tristan goes through PB we buy the cheapest in the biggest container readily available. Generally it comes from the grocery stores we use most (Giant Eagle and Kroger) as their "House Brand" in a bigass plastic jug/bottle/thingie. Sometimes we can get it for as low as $5.50 even! For that price I could give a shit less if it had Crisco, floor sweeping peanuts, motor oil, or cat crap in it. The stuff would still disappear in much less than 10 days! Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Jul 11 - 02:59 AM Trader Joe's has a sunflower seed butter that has led us astray. I think I have to admit that it tastes even better than peanut butter. Mmmmm. I may just have to have a PB&J and a glass of milk right now - maybe I should call it an SFB&J. -Joe- |

Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: Bill D Date: 02 Jul 11 - 02:29 PM I make a mixture of 2/3 crunchy Skippy and 1/3 unsalted crunchy Almond butter which I get from Trader Joe's. Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: bobad Date: 02 Jul 11 - 03:08 PM "When the practice nurse noted my high cholesterol the other year, she fingered p.b. as one of the culprits. Along with honey." I would suggest you find a new practice nurse, that one doesn't know what she's talking about. |

Well, peanuts make me stemmie so I can understand that. Especially with Annette. She's worth her weight in peanuts. Seriously, peanuts increase my... you know... not that I need any more trouble. But if Annette was to happen by, well, I'd make cracked wheat toast with peanut butter and woooooo her. I expect she'd be turned on by a late evening sensuous repast of peanut butter on cracked wheat toast accompanied with cold Bud. mmmmmmmmm I am a wild and crazy guy eh. |

Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: Helen Date: 03 Jul 11 - 07:10 AM No one I know, outside of my immediate family, will even try peanut butter and lettuce sandwiches. I love them. The lettuce has to be crunchy. Even my hubby won't try it. Some of my other favourite sandwich combos are PB & tomato, PB & banana, PB & honey, PB & jam, PB & marmalade. I like PB on rice crackers - the ones made of puffed rice, not the thin ones used for dips etc. All of the above combos work on rice crackers too. Helen |
Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: wysiwyg Date: 03 Jul 11 - 09:37 AM The no-sugar thing in PB is now so popular that even the store brand knock-offs are sometimes there. Of course cashew butter is better, and hazelnut is OK too. ;~) We'uns gits what-all comes to hand. ~S~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: lefthanded guitar Date: 05 Jul 11 - 01:05 PM You have to read the label carefully; even some brands that claim to have 'natural' pb list ingredients like hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrup- which, of course, totally defeat the healthy aspects of eating pb. Which I don't really like much, but have on hand as a snack because of its health benefits. Only the ones (store brand or not) that list only peanuts are what I eat. btw if you ever want to catch a d**n mouse, put some pb out. They love it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Peanut butter From: GUEST,Patsy Date: 06 Jul 11 - 08:42 AM When I first tasted it in my teens I didn't like it at all, that was the smooth kind. Later I started buying the crunchy kind and found it so much better on crusty bread and lately trying it with a variety of things it makes a quick satisfying snack. Better for you than a packet of crisps or a bar of chocolate. The only nut spread I am not terribly keen on is the hazelnut/chocolate combo spread Nutella I think it's called, is that classed as a nut butter spread? The smell of that I find revolting. |
