Does anyone remember this song, which I last heard sometime in the 70s?

No Idea who wrote it. Can't remember who sung it. But it was about a woman going into a bookshop looking for a book on "pornography" for her husband. Turns out he was a pawn-broker - hence the title.

Absolutely nailed. Well, I did spend some time sifting through other alternative "Three Balls" songs. Amusing but no probables. Guess I should have checked here first.

Hey, Charley. I got to the Mudcat thread through Mr Google. I always have a helluva time with the MC search engine, and in this case I couldn't make a blue clicky to link to it.

For posterity, the other thread is Here.

Can anyone remember the tune?

GUESTRay; I think the tune is that of The Waterford Boys. I know it as the Librarian's Song, a nice daft song that I only sing very occasionally.

Sadly I never got to see my Dad's reaction to it, though I think he would have liked it, particularly the intro. He was a librarian whose pet bugbear was the line "I'm looking for a book." They had 13 floors of those (and a big basement of microfilm) and he looked for a bit more clarity from the 'academics' he was trying to serve.

Words by John Conolly - who was a librarian. I heard it sung by Martin Young (Martin Long) from Faversham
