Subject: RE: BS: What's With Buick Drivers Anyway??? From: Becca72 Date: 08 Sep 11 - 09:44 AM My LeBaron didn't have air. In fact, the summer before my senior year of high school the power windows both stopped working (2-door) and then a spring or something broke in the heater so it blew hot air all the time. My friends and I would have to throw the doors open at every stop light to keep from passing out; it was hotter than the hinges of Hell in that car! |

Subject: RE: BS: What's With Buick Drivers Anyway??? From: Ed T Date: 07 Sep 11 - 09:16 PM I saw a greasy looking dude in a grey and dirty Icelandic sweater the other day (I suspect he was hot,if he could feel it, as the temperature was in the mid 20s (C). He was driving an old off white AMC "bubble windowed" Pacer. The back was filled to the roof with split fire wood. It took me back thinking, and I reflected that this is the best use I have seen for the nasty looking car. |

Subject: RE: BS: What's With Buick Drivers Anyway??? From: Donuel Date: 06 Sep 11 - 12:32 PM I think we were all fond of our first car. A "Champagne Mist" Skylark/Sunbird/subcompact is hardly a real Buick. It was so cramped that they made a lot of business for Chiropractors. Road (hog) Masters, Park (don't drive) Avenues and Grand (to beat Covettes at the) Nationals were real Buicks. A Mid sized Buick Century is the favorite car of people close to a century old. It is interesting that Buick is also the favorite US car for new Chinese buyers in China. They must think it is a cheap Cadillac, which also sells well there. |
Subject: RE: BS: What's With Buick Drivers Anyway??? From: Becca72 Date: 06 Sep 11 - 12:04 PM I drove a Buick when I was in my early 20s. 1983 Buick Skylark - color was "champagne". The car was about 10 years old when I had it but I was pretty fond of her! I did not, however, hold up traffic by driving too slow... |
Subject: RE: BS: What's With Buick Drivers Anyway??? From: Donuel Date: 06 Sep 11 - 10:27 AM We all do it. We match the car to the driver... Buick drivers do drive slow they mess up all the traffic flow. BMWs draw applause they are not bound by traffic laws. Jetta drivers weave and zoom and put other drivers in thier tomb. Camaro drivers are not young thier current love life goes unsung. Ferrari drivers run and hide Thier comprehensive is too damn high. My tricked out Civic is a real go getter when I go cruisin in my crew neck sweater. Budget drivers get a Honda Fit because they just don't give a frickin shit. Mecedes drivers think they're rich until they drive into a ditch. VW drivers are zippy of course but they dream at night of a sexy Porshe. Hyundai drivers are super thrifty You can bet they all are pushin fifty. Behind the wheel of every Ford is a person who is really deep down bored. The driver of the "Classic Car" is a guy who will not drive far. If a guy is driving a Mini Van he probably is a sports car fan. Convertible drivers are proud in June but come January its a different tune. The pick up driver has lots of guts if he's wagging big truck nuts. The drivers of the SUV think to themselves, "no one is more important than me". You name the car I'll name the driver is inppired by legendary folk hero Bill Morrisey who sung "I'll bet you a ten, even a fiver / You find the car, I'll find the driver… I have a Mercedes with MD plates / I have no trouble finding dates I have a 1980 Subaru / One more semester and then I'm through I make a lotta dough in a high-tech job / Yeah, you bet, I drive a Turbo Saab Well, I just air-brushed my Econoline / A friend of the devil is a friend of mine And my BMW draws applause / I am not bound by traffic laws I got a Ranger truck, I'm for import quotas / I won't park next to no Toyotas And my Volvo wagon will seat six / It'll run on diesel or trail mix http://acousticlive.com/acoustic_live/June_2008.html |
Subject: RE: BS: What's With Buick Drivers Anyway??? From: Charmion Date: 06 Sep 11 - 06:15 AM I drive a Volkswagen, always have. I take great delight in passing fuel stations, although I usually run around 10 to 20 kph over the speed limit -- that's diesel for ya. And the cops don't bother with me, possibly because they clock me, take another look and say, "middle-aged lady in a diesel Golf? No way that car is doing 125." that's my theory, and I'm sticking to it. |

We've spent lots of money fixing various leaks on our Subaru Outback, which has only 60,000 miles on it. He says it has to do with Subaru's flat "boxer" engine, a good design but one that tends to develop leaks.. Subject: RE: BS: What's With Buick Drivers Anyway??? From: SINSULL Date: 04 Sep 11 - 01:37 PM AHHHH Sweet memories of Aunt Mid ("I love a BIG car") terrorizing the neighborhood in her huge Buick. Only to be outdone by her friend Kate in her huge Cadillac. Lost track of the number of times she hit the tree while backing up out of the driveway. I prefer my little Hyundai. SINS soon to be old. |
Subject: RE: BS: What's With Buick Drivers Anyway??? From: gnu Date: 04 Sep 11 - 12:38 PM "he slows down to a snail's pace half a mile before the light" Guilty. I take my foot off the gas as soon as it turns red and my F150 is a 6-speed auto so you can imagine the engine braking I get. I see drivers get frustrated and pull into the other lane, only to find out they end up behind a bunch of vehicles at the light whilst I pull away easily. And I accelerate very slowly and never drive above the limit unless I see a situation I wish to avoid. I am amazed at the acceleration and agility of my new truck. On side streets, 15 to 20 kph in a 50 unless I know I am holding someone up. It's not just about the gas... it's about reducing the stress level because the drivers around here WILL stress you out. Mum's car is a Chrysler 300. I do the driving. I drive 40 kph in a 50 unless I know I am holding someone up because she is blind in one eye and doesn't see well with the other... she gets nervous. BUT, when I get that German engineered puppy on the road without Mum in it, I CANNOT drive the limit (except on a few heavy traffic roads). Man does that riggin ever move and handle!!! I crank up the volume and rooooll. It corners on a dime at speed. I blew the carbon out early this morning in light traffic on a four lane. Three times, pedal to the metal from a dead stop on the shoulder to 160 kph. Unfortunately, I could only hold 160 briefly because there was too much traffic to do so. Talk about blue air! She ain't made for tooling around town at 40 kph eh. |
Subject: RE: BS: What's With Buick Drivers Anyway??? From: JohnInKansas Date: 04 Sep 11 - 02:24 AM Actually I drive a Chevvy, but it's a fairly large one. I keep up with the traffic and drive very close to the posted speed limits around town, but out on the highways (where in many cases here the limit is 70 - 75 mph) I usually drive a little slower than the limit because it does save me some gas and I like to see the scenery. On the few 2-lane roads I use, I frequently deliberately drop back to 10 mph below the posted limit because I don't care to drive at the limit, and if I'm closer than about 10 mph below the limit it's more difficult for those in a hurry to get around me. (And I might run into the debris if they don't do it safely.) If there's no place for someone to pass me within a reasonable distance, I'll usually kick it up until there's a safe place for them to go around, even though it does cost me more in fuel consumption than those who haven't learned about it might think. I take no offense at drivers with lesser skills, since I know I'm enough better driver than they are to be able to accomodate nearly all the stupid things they might do, especially the dumbass things they do when in a hurry. I'm perfectly happy to get out of their way at the first opportunity. But then maybe I'm not quite old enough to own another Buick - even one of those itty bitty ones like I bought when I was 23 (the one that got me the ticket for 28 mph over the 70 mph limit), or the two I bought the same day when I was 28. Subject: RE: BS: What's With Buick Drivers Anyway??? From: Joe Offer Date: 04 Sep 11 - 01:09 AM My dad is 91, and he drives a Buick. If he sees a red stoplight ahead, he slows down to a snail's pace half a mile before the light - he says it's to save gas, but I think it's orneriness. The window crank is broken on one rear window, so he's got the window held up with duct tape. He doesn't fasten his seatbelt until he starts driving, and the car weaves down the street until he gets that belt fastened. But hey, he's a sweet old man when he's not driving, and ya gotta love him. Need any more explanation, Bobert? -Joe- |
