Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: GUEST,Patsy Date: 23 Nov 11 - 08:07 AM If Camilla's tampons are still there to view she would be worth a fortune (or a possible entry into the Guiness book of records?). |
Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: Charley Noble Date: 23 Nov 11 - 08:45 AM I'd give the "Royal Yacht Shanties" a try but I need a list of the proper names of the Royal Family. Then I can try to fit them into the traditional shanty "Nancy Dawson." Sorry to be so ignorant. Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: BTNG Date: 23 Nov 11 - 09:28 AM Out of envy??? OH geez Don T who writes YOUR material. I'm not even going to bother explaining what I actually meant. In my hurry to type in that entry I found that I'd missed a couple of salient points out. Let them stay out. Oh here's one for you to chew on. You can send certain people to school but you can't educate them. |

Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: Bonzo3legs Date: 23 Nov 11 - 11:05 AM Money well spent - more so than on benefit scroungers and child tax credits!!!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: ChrisJBrady Date: 23 Nov 11 - 11:10 AM Actually the Britannia was not a 'yacht' in any sense of the word - it was a cruise liner, albeit a small one. It has no sails whatsoever. But I'd like to see her Maj. leaning over the side feeding the fish as they tend to do on tall ships. |
Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: BTNG Date: 23 Nov 11 - 11:41 AM Actually I don't think it'll ever be built. The speculative articles in the press are all based around a campaign mounted by likes of The Daily Stale, The Daily Torygraph and their acolytes, and you know who you are, and they'll be campaigning hard you can bet. ......and speaking of benefit scroungers and tax gougers I see the old royal yacht is finally earning its keep as a tourist attraction berthed at Leith Ocean Terminal, Edinburgh. all the Royal Yachts have been designated yacht since they were first built, so seemingly accuracy is not been asked for. The United Kingdom has had 83 royal yachts since the restoration of King Charles II in 1660. Charles II himself had 25 royal yachts, while five were simultaneously in service in 1831. Since the decommissioning of Britannia in 1997 the Queen no longer has a royal yacht. |

Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: Gurney Date: 23 Nov 11 - 10:21 PM The old Brittania was not a cruise liner, but a hospital ship, and served in that capacity. HM just got to use it when Britain wasn't at war. After a repaint. That's what I remember from my childhood, anyway. |
Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: JennieG Date: 23 Nov 11 - 11:14 PM Eliza, could we have a throne each? How about that? Side by side, and I would like mine upholstered in green if it's OK with you. You have real tiaras????? wowsers..... We definitely have something going here, I reckon. Life on board The Good Ship Mudcat could be like a continuous folk festival. Regal waving, Queen Jennifer |
Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: GUEST,Jon Date: 24 Nov 11 - 03:03 AM Gurney, according to Wikipedia. Britannia was designed so that it could be converted into a hospital ship in time of war but it was never used in this way. I'm not sure how it works but other ships also can be called up to serve in time of war. SS Canberra was one of a few that did serve during the Falklands war. for example. My guess is that HM's own would always have been very low on a call up list for wartime service. |
Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: Keith A of Hertford Date: 24 Nov 11 - 03:23 AM Britannia used to show up at foreign ports, and the Royals would host lovely, lavish receptions. Heads of state and business people would fall over themselves to be invited. Result, lots of trade deals for UK. Having a grudge against your face, is no reason to cut your nose off. |
Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 24 Nov 11 - 06:38 AM Excellent, Queen Jennie, a throne each! I'd like mine upholstered in sky-blue velvet please. Yes, I have dozens of tiaras, crowns, diamond necklaces and a solid gold toilet (a bit chilly on the bum, I have to say) I also own several palaces, limos etc etc. The Good Ship Mudcat! Lovely! Do you think they'd allow Morris dancers on board?, cos I do adore Morris dancing. How much shall we charge for a cruise on board our elegant yacht? (Mudcatters and folksingers etc travel free of course) |
Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: MGM·Lion Date: 24 Nov 11 - 06:44 AM Well, Jennie, as we gather, will be HM Jennifer I; but is Eliza to be HM Elizabeth III ~~ and, if so, what shall become of the current incumbent? Only asking! ~M~ PS Homage to Your Majesties ~~ of course... |
Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 24 Nov 11 - 06:56 AM There's a scots song about Elizabeth the Yen which points out (correctly) that as the Scots never had Elizabeth Tudor as their Queen, our present Queen is Elizabeth I to them. ("How can we have a second yen when the first yen's never been?") So I would therefore be Elizabeth II!!! Perhaps Her Present Maj would relish an early retirement? She could mingle among the guests and (for a small fee) recount interesting stories from her past travels with 'Pheeleep' By the way, does anyone know all the words to that scots song? I can't find them on Google. |
Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: JennieG Date: 24 Nov 11 - 07:22 AM Good Queen Eliza, we could certainly have Morris dancers. We can have anything we want.....after all, we are The Queens. I'm putting in an order for some emeralds, I do like me a nice emerald. Emeralds are my birthstone. An emerald tiara and matching necklace and earrings and bracelets and rings would be very pretty, yes? Regal wave, Queen Jennifer |

Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 24 Nov 11 - 08:43 AM "I mean they won they're country by disavowing the monarchy in the first place." They didn't really. They switched to a more local system of elected monarchy. The USA is inn real term a constitutional monarchy in ways which Britain has long ceased to be. The Royal Family is just decoration, official celebrities. |
Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: gnomad Date: 24 Nov 11 - 10:38 AM I heard that song in Ireland, way back in either '67 or '68. Curiously at least a couple of the natives seemed to think it too irreverent, though the same audience happily sang 'Off to Dublin in the green'. A further verse (as I remember it) went; Now, her sister Meg's got a bonny pair of legs, But she wouldn't hae a German or Greek, Peter Townsend was her choice But that didn't suit the boys, So they sent him up the creek. Back to yachts-can I come too? I think that purser would be a good position. |
Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: Jack the Sailor Date: 24 Nov 11 - 11:53 AM No it isn't McGrath. It is more like the US elects the "prime minister" and makes him do ceremonies as well. |
Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 24 Nov 11 - 12:10 PM Well done, MtheGM and gnomad, that's the very song! We sang it to 'The Sash My Father Wore'. Queen Jennie, your emeralds are being crafted as we speak, and a very good choice, may I say! I will have enormous bling-bling diamonds, no need to stint is there? Royal wave and sickly smile (as after Her Maj's Christmas message, she always looks like Grommit!) |

Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: gnomad Date: 24 Nov 11 - 04:51 PM Ta, I think my experience in crewing passenger boats, preceded by banking, sort of fits. Added to that it shouldn't be too strenuous, so yes, somewhat like reverse-missionary. I get to see the world, meet all the visiting folkies, sounds good. Think we can get this project rolling? More words here, second post down. I searched under Scottish breakaway, which I thought was the title. |
Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: JennieG Date: 24 Nov 11 - 05:01 PM gnomad, I don't see why our project shouldn't be a goer! Yes thank you for your kind offer, we will need a purser. Sounds as though the deckhands have started to arrive. There may be one who needs to lie off a while until he is slightly less 'lively' (and notices that we need two Queens in the chorus, as in the verse) Picky, yes, but this job is about attention to detail. |

Subject: RE: BS: New Royal Yacht...! From: GUEST,Teribus Date: 26 Nov 11 - 05:30 AM The song title you were looking for was: - "The Scottish Breakaway" Our Royal family costs the Exchequer of this country (Note: Exchequer NOT Tax Payer) £32 million a year. The Civil List only has two recipients The Queen and Prince Philip between them they cost the Exchequer £7 million per year. The Contribution of the Royal Family to the Exchequer not counting personal tax bills is somewhere around £320 million each year. So a Royal Yacht can be bought for £80 million eh?
