Subject: RE: BS: Happy 2012 From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 31 Dec 11 - 09:38 AM Just as an additional idea, I got a lovely gardening catalogue through the post yesterday. I do love those, as they make you think of Spring and warm, sunny days. Well, this catalogue had some brilliant ideas for red, white and blue displays of flowers for the Jubilee and Olympics. I'm planning several hanging baskets and tubs on a patriotic theme. I'll get them started in our greenhouse in March. I expect some people will think it's a bit 'naff', but I'm going to have a try! Happy New Year everyone! |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy 2012 From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 31 Dec 11 - 10:39 AM well, it's now 2.31am Sunday 1st January & I'm not off to bed! For the first time in years (since the mid-late 90s!) I went out for New Year's Eve!!!! I live in Sydney's entertainment suburb so as I took the escalator down to the train, everyone was heading up! I went 4 stations thru the CBS into inner suburbia for a small singing session - & a good time was had. I got a bus back home having heard the famous Sydney New Year's Eve fireworks & seen a bit of the show on TV - if you missed them, have a look. Happy New Year! |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy 2012 From: JennieG Date: 31 Dec 11 - 07:05 PM Sandra, you are braver than I would have been! I loathe crowds of that size, and have a moral objection to spending all that money on fireworks which just blow away in the wind. However a story in our local paper yesterday made me smile - the priest in a small town north of here has a pyrotechnics licence and puts on fireworks displays in the small towns hereabouts, donating the money to the church. His business is called ""Holy Smoke" ". Cheers JennieG |

The highlight so far being the dog attempting to bark along to Auld Lang Syne with his bone in his mouth, losing said bone under the sofa and trying to bark and recover it. Hilarity did ensue. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy 2012 From: saulgoldie Date: 01 Jan 12 - 10:22 AM Yes, "Auld Lang Syne." There are several threads discussing it here on Mudcat. Wonder how many people "out there" really know much about it. And another song of Scottish origin, "Amazing Grace" is also one of the better know songs. Interesting. Saul |
