I've just received what appears to be a dodgy email purporting to come from Shep Woolley, but the From: is Shep Wolly

This would appear to infer he can't spell his own name. It's asking for money to help out with the costs of a Bone Marrow Transplant in Spain and is full of emotional blackmail.

I don't believe it's from Shep - so beware!

Why, that SOB....

Now when I was a lad and old Shep was a pup
Over hills and valleys we'd stray
Just a boy and his dog we were both full of fun
We grew up together that way

I remember the time at the old swimming hole
When I would have drowned beyond doubt
But old Shep was right there to the rescue he came
He jumped in and helped drag me out

Now the years rolled along and at last he grew old
His eye sight was fast growing dim
Then one day the doctor looked at me and said
I can't do no more for him Jim

So with trembling hand I picked up my gun
Aimed it at Shep's faithful head
But I just couldn't do it I wanted to run
I wished they would shot me instead

So I threw down that old gun, ran right up to his side
He laid his faithful old head right on my knee
And friends I stroked the best pal that a man ever found
I even cried so I scarcely could see

Now old Shep he knew he was going to go
Cause he reached out and he licked at my hand
Then he looked up at me just as much as to say
I hate to but you understand

Now old Shep is gone where the good doggies go
And no more with old Shep will I roam
But if dogs have a heaven there's one thing I know
Old Shep has a wonderful home.

Definitely a hoax/scam email. I've had a couple sent to me from close friends email addresses that were also scams. Somehow ( Though I have no idea how) they got into Sheps email account and sent it to all his contacts along with all his contacts contacts, if you get my drift.

A few months ago an old mate who is well known in our part of the UK had his email hacked.

All his contacts were then sent a variation on this email.

The sob story in this instance was that he had been mugged in Spain
and had everything, cash/credit-cards/passport/etc stolen,
thus desperately needed loadsamoney mailed immediately so he could pay off all travel bills and come home.

He quickly set up a new email to alert us all as soon as he discovered the hack,
but sadly some good kind friends were taken in by the fraudster and conned out of a fair few quid.

The common link seems to be originating from Spain.

A friend of mine, visiting in Spain, supposedly sent me an email from London that she and her two daughters had been mugged, arrested, and were languishing in gaol and could I please send money?

Since I knew she was in Spain, with ONE daughter and her son-in-law, I responded to the email stating that IF she could email me her birth date I would consider sending money.

No response.

If you look at the links in the email you will probably find it comes from Nigeria. I had one of those for somebody else (also claiming to be stuck in Spain) a few weeks ago.

Send a payment by Western Union and anyone with the tracking code can withdraw it, anywhere in the world.

Sometimes those spurious e-mails are very convincing, and I've actually wondered if my good friends are really in deep trouble in some youthful hostile in Karjackastan.

If I ever am in such trouble, say in a revisit to the Gurage tribal region of Ethiopia, I hope my good friends here at Mudcat wire me money, lots of it! But only if I provide my secret password (PM for secret password).

Cheerily,
Charley Noble
