Subject: BS: UK Geography question
From: John MacKenzie
Date: 02 Apr 12 - 08:34 AM

Q. What does the UK's largest county have in common with the Olympic Torch Relay?

A. Fuck all.

Yes folks, due to the fact that we are so sparsely populated, and therefore we won't buy many tickets, the Olympic torch Relay will not pass through any part of Sutherlane. Or Ross-shire, or Caithness.

As Mr Cameron says, 'We're all in it together'
What we're in is limbo, and we find this to be further proof of how irrelevant the Westminster political machine is, to Scots, and Scotland.

Not that I want to see the goddamned torch, I shan't watch one second of the Olympics, but this piece of cynicism annoys me.

Aye, but we are all taught at school that the biggest county in the parts of The British Isles that actually count... is Yorkshire.

Ruddy torch would go out if it had to go up as far as the ballast that keeps the south coast from sinking....

Well the blessed Torch IS coming to Norwich, and I haven't the least intention of going to see it, I'd rather watch wood warp!

The Giants Are Coming

I wrote a couple of the Giant stories to help kick off the story writing.

http://microsites.essexcc.gov.uk/microsites/Giants/jackgiant.html

I will be hiding in the USA for part of the Olympics and then at Sidmouth Folk Week for the rest. Only bad part really is how crowded the flight back from US will be.

I think the torch business is being targeted at people, John, not sheep.

All the Olympic torch has ever done for me was to create a traffic hold up for hours.

Anything to do with our very own Will Fly, VT? If so, I'll be there!

I am all for the Olympics; but I think the "Torch" biznis rather silly & can work up no interest in it. Not even of any particular antiquity anyhow, and has little real traditional standing. I believe I am right that it was first featured in the 1936 Berlin Olympics; so probably an idea of old You-Know-Who or one of his advisors. Couldn't personally give a u-no-wot where they take the toy.

~M~

Except that if they don't bring it here to Haddenham I shall scream the house down!

Well you could run the "firey cross" instead.
Firey Cross
Damn trouble is that some KuKlux bastards stole the tradition and it is sometimes misunderstood as to its meaning.

No, John. She grazes on the lawns in the sleazy part of town. Of course, at this time of year, she wears a wool jacket, woolen undies and heavy boots. Still looks good, though.
