Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy is living in interesting times... From: Thompson Date: 13 Jan 24 - 01:13 AM Yikes, Mrrzy - if you have to have stickies torn off again (hopefully not), a tip from the world of moustache-waxing: holding an ice block on the place for a little while before the rrrippp (use gloves!) means the skin's numbed and it doesn't hurt so much. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy is living in interesting times... From: Stilly River Sage Date: 19 Dec 23 - 02:44 PM On the Afloat thread I wondered how things went, but I see here life was not boring for the last week. Those adhesive devices sound horrible! My mother was allergic to some of the plastic medical tape and so they used paper tape instead. To get a strong enough effect it sometimes involved lots of layers of paper tape. Benadryl is actually quite a miracle drug. I remember hearing a lecture one time where the professor paused the main talk with an aside to discuss that. I don't remember all of the details, except that it has many applications in medicine. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy is living in interesting times... From: keberoxu Date: 19 Dec 23 - 01:32 PM Mrrzy, that sounds simply hideous. But good that they corrected the problem they were after. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy is living in interesting times... From: Mrrzy Date: 19 Dec 23 - 10:30 AM Once again, surgery (last Weds) went well, but I was bedeviled by a weird rare unusual side issue, of course, why wouldn't I be. Remember dickeys (dickies?)? An article of clothing consisting of a collar from which a rectangle of cloth hung down? One wore them, if one wore them, under open-necked shirts to make it look as if you had another shirt on under it, without actually wearing 2 layers. The collar was the surgical scar. Not a big deal. But the dickey! Oh, wow, they must have been placing, and then tearing off, amazing numbers of monitor sticky things. I have hives like you wouldn't imagine, from my dust mite allergy, and them removing every single layer of skin from my entire chest, up over my shoulders, AND around the surgical site, from them using a type of dressing that rips your skin off when removed. It is a sight, and was absolute TORTURE. On the other hand, they added benedryl into my muscle-relaxer/pain pill mix, and I had a FUN few days of torture before the pain meds started upsetting my stomach. I am *not* a boring patient. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy is living in interesting times... From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 02 Dec 23 - 03:40 AM a muso friend's wife had health problems recently & had so many blood texts that the technician refused to take more blood. So I sent her some gourmet chocolates, same as I've given to her husband & other muso friends, & she no idea where they came from. I had assumed he'd remember ... Have some (virtual) chocolates - you'll feel better!! |

Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy is living in interesting times... From: Stilly River Sage Date: 09 Nov 23 - 04:03 PM I was reminded this week of the trauma to a family when a member has a personality disorder (sociopath, as far as we know) - it isn't treatable with a drug, it's something that might be improved by therapy and practice of social skills, etc. (So a psychologist friend told me recently.) A sibling has those characteristics and while his anti-social behavior (toward the family in particular) was so difficult for all of us for many years, it is peaceful since no one has heard from him in ~15 years. He seems to have a roof over his head and figured out a disability income. Someone asked me if I wanted to revisit the issues in that case - no way. Leave well enough alone. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy is living in interesting times... From: Mrrzy Date: 09 Nov 23 - 12:58 PM Hi, everybody! Back still great. New thing in neck - myelomalacia, maybe, softening of spinal cord giving me weird leg things, like my knees collapsing when I walk. Have MRIs, will see neuro tomorrow. Did you know you could bruise your kneecap marrow, with your own femur, if you collapse on your hunkers fast enough? Meanwhile older twin is getting married next fall, am in charge of hotels etc. All advice appreciated. Really. FOFU, big time. Mean the other while, younger, bipolar (schizophrenic?) twin has been in jail, then in mental hospital, then back in jail, and was going to be railroaded into pleading guilty to a violent felony, but I raised such a stink that he's going to be evaluated instead for sanity at time of offense, yay, not guilty by reason of insanity plea, I hope! That was today's good news. I tell you, it is *never* boring. He did punch the cop who was arresting him for weird sexual behavior, but only because he (my kid) thought he (himself) was a Cherokee chief, so he (the cop) had no right to arrest him (my kid). That would have been a lot easier had the cop been a woman. We need more pronouns, like he(1) and he(2)... yeah, right. Luvs! |
