Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy is living in interesting times... From: keberoxu Date: 31 Oct 22 - 05:42 PM I like hearing author Johnny Mercer sing that one, and Ella Fitzgerald does a good job too. By now I hope that your days and nights in rehab have a rhythm to them that is encouraging and hopeful. |

J'espere que tu sois bien dégagé! hee hee) |
Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy is living in interesting times... From: Mrrzy Date: 29 Oct 22 - 12:29 AM Finally pooped so off to rehab where they tried to feed me rice ans carrots and fruit. WHAT IS THE ACTUAL ISSUE with keto? I have screamed and sobbed and gotten some Valium. How this is good for mw I dunno. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy is living in interesting times... From: Stilly River Sage Date: 28 Oct 22 - 06:12 PM Anesthesia is pretty hard on the gut, slowing down elimination. After the knee surgery this summer I finally resorted to the tablet form of milk of magnesia; fiber and colace weren't enough. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy is living in interesting times... From: Helen Date: 28 Oct 22 - 03:32 PM Hi Mrrzy, I have been wondering and hoping on how you are going. So, like a person with one hand in a bucket of boiling water, and the other in a bucket of ice, on average you are feeling ok? :-) I think that if you look really, really hard you might see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel, and everything will start progressing. There probably will be a lot of obstacles but they should get smaller and smaller over time. The good thing is that you have had the surgery now - but it is still a waiting game until you feel back to some sort of normal health. One day, hopefully soon-ish, you will stop and think, "I'm not in pain!" but that day will probably creep up on you because you will get better and better, bit by bit, day by day. I can't say I'm rooting for you, because that means something totally different here in Oz. But you could tell those fuckers you are rooting for them. LOL |

Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy is living in interesting times... From: Mrrzy Date: 16 Oct 22 - 08:28 AM Ok, well, *that* was no fun. Turns out keto interferes with anesthesia, which I only found out trying to figure out why IV benzoes were so. Not. Calming. Plus I flunked. They can't replace the disk above L5, they have to fuse both above and below. Too degraded. So 2 surgeries: Monday 24th 2 fusions, L4L5 and L5S1, from the front. Weds 26th 2nd op to add the stabilizing Frankensteinesque rods and screws in the back. So Thurs next I go to DC, Friday preop stuff, Mon-Fri in hosp in Reston (any NoVA cattters?), then I hope rehab for a bit. Preop stuff includes some fun things like talking to anesthesia and nutrition (it is going to be *really* hard to be keto on their menu but otherwise I will lose my temper with the nurses and then try to die with all that available medical stuff). Woot! End in sight! |
Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy is living in interesting times... From: Helen Date: 29 Sep 22 - 07:44 PM OK, got it! :-) As an ex-librarian, my thoughts automatically turned to providing a list of audio files to listen to while undergoing a medical procedure like a CT scan. When I had an MRI I was told that I could bring in a CD of my favourite music which the staff could play to make me feel more relaxed during the procedure. As it happens, I brought the CD in but chose not to use it and the "music" of the MRI was interesting to me anyway, like a free-form, rhythmic electronic jazz. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy is living in interesting times... From: Mrrzy Date: 29 Sep 22 - 07:37 PM They squirt stuff into each disk till it hurts and you tell'm if it is the pain they're trying to fix or not. This identifies/confirms the levels that need surgery. They then watch the disks leak to see what shape they're all in and also helps confirm whether / where surgery. It is Weds next! Yikes! |

Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy is living in interesting times... From: keberoxu Date: 05 Sep 22 - 06:05 PM ... so the surgery is the hockey-puck-like thingy? Although you surely want this overwith, it's good that more tests are being ordered. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mrrzy is living in interesting times... From: Mrrzy Date: 03 Sep 22 - 11:09 AM Physical Therapy. I always bring a towel. My shrink gave me a huge slew of data questions to ask so decisions have finally been able to be made. Yes, surgery, this year. No, not UVa, their care sucks. Last illustration: I tell both surgeons that PT says my sacrum is misaligned. Ask if it can be seen on scans. UVa doc looks at profile scan, says no. Other doc looks at profile scan, says Um, *rotates view to back* and says Oh, so it is. So PT through Sept, then more tests to verify what damage there is, then fuse L5S1 and replace L4L5. Anterior sirgery only. No bone graft, no bolts outside the spine. Whew. Feels way better to know what is coming. |
