We're off to see the spine doctor,
the wonderful spine doctor of ... erm ...

No plan of care. Unbelievable.

A CT is good. They are taking your condition seriously. Hang in there.

keberoxu, how about "the wonderful spine doctor of os"? Os is the Latin word for bone.

Other than that, I'm no good at making up songs or rhymes.

Mrrzy, old friend,
a condition as extreme as yours has got to have a solution.
It just beats me that they are taking so long to get to the solution.
I'm hoping the CT scan succeeds where everybody else has let you down.
Thinking and praying for you.

Lying on mat again today. Just because I *could* sit didn't, apparently, mean I *should* ... Ok, lesson learned.

In terms of pain, lying down is best if can locate precise positions, then walking, then sitting, then standing. And I was hoping to bloody *shower* when today's visitor was here, as yesterday was better. Merde. Maybe I can pace vaguely.

But it used to be lying precisely vs. absolute yowie, so, yeah.

In terms of precision, I still shift my left femur (angle from all three planes, plus rotation, plus occasional leverage by weight on knee with fulcrum under femur) and pelvis by judicious plushy placement. But today I no longer *also* need to guard the injection site, so again, yeah.

New term: plushybana.

Walking to yesterday's CT scan went a LOT better than walking to Monday's thing.

On prévoit another shot next week.

All right. I'll take the bait. What is plushybana?

I was sending you good thoughts for when you had to lie still in the CT scanner because you have said that finding a pain-free position has been difficult and the medical staff would be telling you to be in a specific position and not move. I hadn't been thinking about actually walking to and from the CT, etc.

I'm glad it went well and I suspect there will be a delay in finding out the results/diagnosis and then the treatment plan, I also suspect that you are not out of the woods yet, but maybe you can see the light through the trees, I hope.

The medical world moves at its own pace at the best of times, but given the added pressure of COVID it might take a bit longer than normal.

The CT scan is the key to unlock the next door on your journey. I hope it is a useful door.

Had long talk with the Patient Advocacy folks this morning. They sounded horrified. Hope I get some ER folks retrained.

No results yet. No new shot scheduled yet; the spine guy says pain guy should give me another, but the earliest would be tomorrow or Weds (depending on how you count 2 weeks).

Walking is now better than standing. I walk some during commercials.

Left leg still wooden, ankle still buckling. So I don't walk a lot...

I have a useful contraption known as a mini exercise bike or similar names. It's under my computer desk and I use the pedals, sometimes without consciously being aware of it, just forward and back and sometimes a gentle run of spins. The prices range from ok to ridiculous but mine is fairly cheap.

One disadvantage is its weight so you might need someone to place it in the position you want or look at the lighter weight models.

Yup, worse. After CT scan they are talking fusion. In months. Meanwhile somebody forgot to schedule my new pain shot, so another week.

Have returned to lying on yoga mat and plushybani. There were 2 while nights I could sleep without the plushies. Now, 2 nights of 21-2 then awake again from pain. Sigh.

I'm sorry to hear that, Mrrzy.

Over 10 years ago, my Hubby was going through the long process associated with medical tests for cancer, diagnosis, treatment planning, waiting for treatment and follow-ups e.g. weeks of radiotherapy, post-treatment prognosis and then waiting for the final all-clear (which technically he still hasn't had). One of his friends who had been through the whole process for a different sort of cancer gave him some useful advice.

He said that it is a waiting game. You wait for each step in the process, then wait for the next step and the next step, and it's best to just settle in for the long haul and try not to stress about how long it all takes.

Which doesn't help, I know, when you are in excruciating pain but the medical industry works at its own pace, unfortunately.

Are you going to reveal what a plushybani is, or is it a secret mystery, not for the uninitiated? :-)

Me, I'm guessing that
Plushybana is singular and
Plushybani is plural,
but I couldn't guess what they mean.

Except that the word distractingly recalls to mind
that CSI-Las Vegas episode with the Plushies,
one of the more notorious and strange murder mystery plots on the show.

Don't know why I didn't think of'm earlier. It is great to be fed well.

My stomach, however, is finally trying to rebel against, I think, the acetaminophen/ paracetamol. Hmmm. Not at all sure what to do. Antacids, yeah. I am more of a cocktail of chemicals than usual.

I use Slippery Elm Bark powder - not often, only when I need it, but it works for me. It was recommended to me by a natural therapy professional about 40 years ago.

Caution, if I mix hot water with the powder I always put a heaped teaspoon of powder in a cup, then 1/3 cup boiling water, quickly mix it up and immediately put stir in 1/3 cup of cold water. If you try to drink it with boiling water you could burn your mouth because it retains the heat too well.

It has little to no taste, but lemon juice or honey could be added. I only make 2/3 cup because I don't mind the taste, but you could make it a bit more watery.

Maybe my stomach is rebelling against me being horizontal for a month. All them juices pooling in the wrong place.

Cutting out the paracetamol. Reducing naproxen from max to recommended. That has me taking about 15% of prior analgesia.

Leaves all the thorns on the knitting needles. And my stomach hasn't stopped hurting yet.

Thanks for being my support group, by the way. Thank you *very* much.

Painkillers can play havoc with the gut. Following the knee replacement I got off of oxycodone after 3 weeks, Flexaril after 3 1/2, and Celebrex after a month. It still took another couple of weeks to begin to feel "normal." Prune juice helps (but don't overdo! 1/2 cup twice a day at the most.) Get plenty of fiber in your food (fruit, leafy greens, beans, etc. Steamed spinach is my friend.)

Good luck with all of that, juggling the pain and the normal stuff.

Got second pain shot, did have orthostatic hypotension for about an hour after but 2.5 mg valium beforehand kept me from fainting *during* the procedure (which he said was bad, last time). And today there are pins and needles in the leg that had just been wooden! I am considering that encouraging. Actually the first sign of progress rather than acclimation. Exactly 5 weeks from onset.

A doc worried about my stomach and had me take Nexium before any more naprosyn or tylenol, so I did last night. Woke up this morning with a black tongue. Eek! Occult GI bleed? Searched Internet. Called doc... Apparently that is a rare, but known, possible effect.

I can't be normal for *one* minute.

Hi Mrrzy,

With doctors it's kill or cure, you know. LOL

With every new reaction to a drug they recommend an added drug treatment which then creates a different reaction so we end up on a cocktail of drugs with a combination of reactions to each one, or worse still, drug interactions.

Did you check out the Slippery Elm Bark powder that I mentioned on 30 Jul 22 - 09:04 PM?

Just what you didn't need: a black tongue.
Sounds like the stuff of horror movies.
I can only guess the taste of it.

Relieved to hear that you are feeling some improvement for the leg,
and is your back any less painful as well?

Apparently it could have been black HAIRY tongue!

2d opinion says fusion, too. There is nothing at L5S1 left to repair. But they have a newer system like a hockey puck rather than screws and plates, faster recovery, so I am canting in that direction.

If there is any similarity between knees and that surgery you mention, it may be the use of a disk between the bone ends. In the knee it is inserted between replaced titanium bone ends. Makes getting around much easier.

I hope you get an answer to this soon!
