Subject: BS: Incoming lobsters at 6 0 clock! From: John MacKenzie Date: 11 Jun 12 - 02:51 PM Police were called to one of Britain's greatest stately homes as the wedding of former Newcastle United star Danny Guthrie descended into a mass brawl. Guests began throwing lobster thermidor at each other early in the evening during the reception at Allerton Castle near Harrogate. Full-blown violence erupted later in the evening as Guthrie's bride Rebecca Middleman was reportedly punched in the face and sent to hospital for checks. Staff at the venue - which was once owned by the brother of King George IV - told the Sunday Telegraph that the guests "behaved like peasants with money" and complained that the revellers at the 25-year-old footballer's £40,000 wedding were, "more Big Fat Gypsy Wedding than our usual clientele." |

Subject: RE: BS: Inccoming lobsters at 6 0 clock! From: Rapparee Date: 11 Jun 12 - 02:55 PM Oh, that the Stately Homes and the Stately Personages of England should degenerate to this! Lobster thermidor won't do the same damage as a hard bread roll. Really, you'd think they'd know better. |

Subject: RE: BS: Inccoming lobsters at 6 0 clock! From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 11 Jun 12 - 03:10 PM Sounds unfair to gypsies and peasants, if you ask me. I feel sorry for the bride and groom. It was supposed to be a meaningful day for them, and now the memories are ruined. I hope the bride wasn't seriously injured. |

Subject: RE: BS: Inccoming lobsters at 6 0 clock! From: Bat Goddess Date: 11 Jun 12 - 04:03 PM Geez, if you're going to have a food fight, don't use lobster! I HATE to see good crustaceans go to waste. If they can't treat them properly, give them to me, please. Even in coastal New England, I can't afford to indulge too often; they're way too dear. Ham salad makes a nice splat...pour split pea soup in someone's lap...fling turnips or carrots about... Do. Not. Waste. Lobster! Ach! Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: Inccoming lobsters at 6 0 clock! From: GUEST Date: 13 Jun 12 - 12:54 PM Staff at the venue...told the Sunday Telegraph that the guests "behaved like peasants with money" I gather that the staff at the venue haven't been around rich people much. I attended a small and exclusive college. The female students were a pretty nice bunch, but some of the males...phew Smashing huge mirrors and ripping sinks off the walls were ordinary occurrences. The dorms had vending machines, and if the machine malfunctioned, the thing to do was to smash the plate glass front. By senior year, most of us female students had written 'the boys' off as possible marriage partners. |

Subject: RE: BS: Inccoming lobsters at 6 0 clock! From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 13 Jun 12 - 02:56 PM At my Uni (Edinburgh) the rather 'upper class' students who'd been to private school etc were terrible for chucking food about, not to mention flour bombs, eggs and other, worse things, during Rag Week. I reckon they had done this in boarding school. I've never found this type of behaviour funny, just childish and stupid. The staff at the 'stately home' venue were shocked and upset, and had to get the Police at 2am. Not amusing in the least IMO. |

Subject: RE: BS: Inccoming lobsters at 6 0 clock! From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 13 Jun 12 - 09:25 PM If they served "lobster thermidor" no damn wonder that there was a riot! The proper way to cook lobster is boiled in sea water and it is best eaten right out of the shell, washed down with cold beer. Some non purists may dip it in melted butter but to mix that lobster with some thermidor shit is criminal and any resulting riot should be at the liability of the chef! I know nothing of Danny and Rebecca Guthrie, but if they approved the menue the guests have every right to be pissed off! |

Subject: RE: BS: Inccoming lobsters at 6 0 clock! From: Ed T Date: 15 Jun 12 - 04:11 PM ""The proper way to cook lobster..."" I grew up in a lobster area and have eaten it just about every way one could imagine. IMO, each way was good, (though some better to my taste than others)- that's the marvelous thing about the American lobster and its close European relative (not the rather tasteless crayfish stuff they call lobster in the Carribean area). So, IMO, there is no such thing as a proper way to cook, prepare or eat lobster. It is all up to experimenting with your tastebuds. (BTW, I find cooking in seawater results in a tad bit "oversalty" tasting lobster - I prefer less salt used in cooking). |
