Subject: Tech: BOSE Sound System From: saulgoldie Date: 24 Jul 12 - 12:09 PM We hear so many horrible stories of customer service and product failure, that I thought I should share this good one. I bought a second-hand BOSE radio with 3-CD changer. The base unit worked fine. But the changer did not. I called BOSE, and first off, the call taker--yes, a HUMAN who spoke intelligible English--and he told me that they would pay shipping both ways, and repair the unit with a one year guarantee on the repair. Not only do these things sound awesome, but they back them up perfectly. I do not anticipate any trouble with the process. (If things don't go so smoothly, I will report back.) But I recommend these to lovers of high quality sound with a small footprint. Saul |

Subject: RE: Tech: BOSE Sound System From: michaelr Date: 24 Jul 12 - 08:20 PM I haven't heard a Bose radio in person, but my bass player had this to say about their pro gear: "No highs, no lows -- must be Bose." |

Subject: RE: Tech: BOSE Sound System From: Don Firth Date: 24 Jul 12 - 08:46 PM We used to have a "bookcase stereo" set that consisted of a large central unit that housed an AM/FM radio, CD player (one CD at a time), and cassette player, with two separate speaker cabinets, each of which contained two speakers, and a fairly sizable sub-woofer that sat on the floor. We bought it over several other smaller set-ups because the sound was excellent. But to call it a "bookcase stereo" was a bit ridiculous because it occupied most of the top of a bureau of drawers, with a little room left over for a case of our most-played CDs. We sold it and got a Bose with a 3 CD changer (that's 3 CDs in addition to the CD player in the main unit. It also has an auxiliary input in case I want to plug in something else, such as a cassette player or whatever. It has a less that two square foot footprint on the same bureau, and for the life of me, how they manage to get out of those itty-bitty speakers, and without a sub-woofer, I don't know. Crank it up a bit and you can feel it rumbling through the floor. "No highs, no lows?" Not our experience. It's an amazing machine!! Don Firth |

Subject: RE: Tech: BOSE Sound System From: Don Firth Date: 24 Jul 12 - 08:55 PM Now I've worked in a radio station that had a production room with a sound system that consisted of two floor-standing, multi-speaker cabinets (four speakers of various sizes in each cabinet), along with two 14" sub-woofers, and our Bose can't match THAT. But what the heck do you expect!?? Don Firth |

Subject: RE: Tech: BOSE Sound System From: Richard Bridge Date: 25 Jul 12 - 05:44 AM I've always thought it sounded a bit sort of like blowing across the top of a milk bottle. A family member has a domestic "hifi" by Bose and it sounds HORRID. |
