What does 'skanky' mean please, Rapparee? I only meant that slices of squid legs fried in batter are delicious! But I wouldn't hurt poor old Squiddy, never fear.

""I've been here quite a few times, but most recently for happy hour. We were able to find a table on the rooftop at 5:30, even though it was wing night. So, though it was crowded, we still had a good time and were able to enjoy food, drinks and live music! Our server was really good, she brought us our orders promptly and continued checking on us the whole time we were there. She even rang in my BOGO beer right before happy hour without me having to ask! The sliders were just ok, but not terrible for $2 a pop. I ordered the nachos, and they were perfect and just big enough for 2 of us. First time I've ever seen all the toppings pre-arranged on each nacho and the cheese melted on top of it to hold everything in place.

Overall, I love the view, the frozen drinks (a 190 Octane will start the night off right), and it's usually just a fun place to hang out. Expect there to be a lot of people around, but enjoy the people you are there to hang out with.

I come here from time to time to sit at and people watch its just hilarious. Especially if you can get on the rooftop...its definitely one of the best around. Its like this all day and night too.The mist machines on the roof definitely cool things off during a hot summer day.

Do you want to watch awful snotty douchey-dancers attempt to dance to techno on a makeshift dance floor, with with music blaring so loud that you beg to borrow a screwdriver from the maintenance man to rupture your eardrums.

Or, do you want to watch a sports game in the presence of sketchy people and mindless frat house lemmings drinking out of plastic cups while eating super deep fried chicken 'tenders' that resemble deep-fried hamsters and restrooms that smell ick-y at certain points in the night, with drunk girls in tiaras and feather boas from bachelorette parties blocking the way to the stalls.

Or, do you desire to be amongst high-class and plastic-bodied, skanky hookers strutting around like they are on a freakin' runway looking for guys to buy them a drink and a room for an hour.

If that's what you are seeking, go elsewhere. We don't need this kind of trash here in the Mudcat Sports-free Tavern.

I'll get my coat.

My dogs will gladly hunt out your sandwich: or anything else remotely edible or chaseable - whether it would still be in eatable condition after being retrieved is another matter.

I'll have a serious words with them about those Siamese cats, though - if they're told they will leave cats alone.

I might have to check out for a few days - busy musical weekend up ahead, but I'll be back for some more serious relaxation as soon as possible.

Rapparee is making the point that 'ordering' something is akin to 'hunting'- it doesn't even imply that one will get what one is after...

I'd like my favourite schnitzel, tomato & lettuce on wholemeal sourdough, followed by a platter of plums, cherries & seedless grapes & a tall jug of old-fashioned lemonade made with lots of lemons & not too much sugar. bliss, especially if accompanied by music & followed by a lap-full of friendly cats.

I have a confession to make:- I watch children's TV quite often in the mornings. I particularly like 'Balamory' with Edie Mcready and Miss Hoolie, and 'Mr Tumble' (Jason Fletcher) is brilliant.'In The Night Garden' is out of this world (just before lunch) And 'Lingo'. I have my mid-morning coffee and indulge in these dear little programmes.
If permitted, I'd like to order some tuna/mayo sandwiches on that soft white bread, and a very strong cuppa tea. I'm staying here in this tavern indefinitely!

I found the answer to that Eliza. I don't turn the TV on. Mind you it never gets turned on in this house before 7:30PM, when the staff goes into Soapworld.
I am, and always have been, mainly a radio person, but even there it is a tad ubiquitous. However I can always go over to Radio4 Extra, and listen again, to some vintage radio.
Anyway, can I order a large helping of lobster, some melted butter, and a large Goerge Dickel No 12. Easy on the ice.

This morning I put the TV on, and do you know, nearly every freeview channel was the Dreaded 'O'! It's grossly unfair IMO; they assume that not one soul wants anything else. And there are WEEKS to go yet. Grooooo!

All BS aside, I truly wish I could understand the attraction to sports. I can't imagine anything less important in my life than which gang of glandular cases wins or loses some silly ass ball kicking thing.
It's all too much like nationalism.

Robyn - the dogs I posted on FB are my real dogs, they're fluffy and medium-sized and very friendly.
The ones I have with me in the tavern are my wish-dogs, which the family won't let me have as they make the grandchildren nervous, and they're pictured in a link near the beginning of the thread.

They're very friendly too:
wolfhound pups being friendly
and here:

Sure, we can play duets. What do you fancy?

I have discovered something that I think you all should know: this is a sport-free zone, right? It's also a sporting house at times. So, y'all decide....

Ebbie, I hope the dog was rescued from legs through the hammock before you slept on it?

Has the giant squid come by yet? He usually turns up when people arrive at the tavern. I know his habitat is the deep ocean, but he seems to like the time away from dodging sperm whales.

I spent the night on a hammock in the backyard. With just a light coverlet to hold off the dew I slept deliciously. (Not to say, deliriously.)

The best part of this is I just have to say I will do it and it is done.
Coffee's ready.
Now back up to the rafters with the DUCK!

I made a huge summer veg & cheesy casserole last evening and there's plenty to share. Anyone care for a bowlful to go with a glass or two of light red wine?

Onions, broad beans, aubergine, courgettes, tomatoes, broccoli, peppers and mushrooms all baked in layers with some pasta, and some garlic and coriander (this time - herbs variable to taste) then topped with cheese and browned under the grill with parmesan on top.

Sorry, no recipe, I just do it - but I feel well fed just thinking about it.

A light shower of rain overnight to refresh the mornings would be good sometimes: otherwise I think I'd like to join the permanent residents. Oh and not too many biting stinging things if we sit out of an evening.

Delightful.

JennieG, that's just what I was thinkin'. Did you realize that we can even regulate the temperatures here? I LOVE balmy mornings and velvety late evenings, crisp nights and lazy days. I even like misty days and the occasional downpour. I do NOT like white-hot sun and glaring sands or stifling buildings; all of these stipulations will be on my needs list.

Yesterday afternoon I made a chocolate slice (bar/square in the US and Canada) and there is rather a lot, so plenty to share! All we need is a sheltered spot to sit, not right out in the hot sun and not too cool in the shade. Don't want to get sunburnt or melt the chocolate!

I may move in permanently.....
