Subject: BS: First failed drug test! From: GUEST,Tunesmith Date: 30 Jul 12 - 08:01 AM No, it hasn't happened yet, but quite a few eye-brows have been raised at certain amazing - and unexpected - performances in the pool. Let's hope there are very few positive test results, and none - hopefully - of the poster sports men and women. |

Subject: RE: BS: First failed drug test! From: GUEST,Tunesmith Date: 30 Jul 12 - 10:43 AM Don't just pick on Olympic athletes! Probably every sport uses/has used doping! Even snooker and bowls players! Soccer, American football, horse-racing, professional boxing etc. Every cheat wants to get that advantage that drugs may bring. Hopefully, with more sophisicated testing, more and more drugs cheats will be caught but sports bodies must do more. I believe that Roger Federer went through six tournaments without being tested! Ridiculous! And, of course, it doesn't stop with sports. Heaven knows how many classic popular songs have be created with the aid of drugs! |

Subject: RE: BS: First failed drug test! From: GUEST,999 Date: 30 Jul 12 - 11:00 AM The article I linked addresses that, Tunesmith. "The following is an incomplete list of sportspeople who have been involved in doping offences. It contains those who have been found, or have admitted to, having taken illegal performance-enhancing drugs, prohibited recreational drugs or have been suspended by a sporting body for failure to submit to mandatory drug testing. Athletics are not included. Further information: Use of performance-enhancing drugs in the Olympic Games, List of doping cases in athletics, List of sportspeople cleared of doping charges, and Category: Sportspeople in doping cases by nationality" |

Subject: RE: BS: First failed drug test! From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 30 Jul 12 - 02:36 PM Interesting to connsider that drugs that would be seen as performance enhancing in sporting terms might be seen as performance inhibiting in songwriting, and the other way round. |

Subject: RE: BS: First failed drug test! From: Richard Bridge Date: 30 Jul 12 - 02:50 PM Not all sports benefit from similar "enhancements". The steady hand for rifle shooting vs the quick twitch for slalom ski-ing... |

Subject: RE: BS: First failed drug test! From: GUEST,Tunesmith Date: 30 Jul 12 - 04:24 PM Of course, the Finns - certainly their runners - were amongst the first to use "blood doping" back in the 1980s. I don't know their biathletes were ever suspected of such practices, but it wouldn't surprise me. |

Subject: RE: BS: First failed drug test! From: Les in Chorlton Date: 31 Jul 12 - 01:13 PM We have thought about introducing dope tests at The Beech (M21 9EG). As head dope I am attracted to this concept. As a general rule I would advocate no beer below 3.8% or above 5.5% under normal circumstances and no cider at all ever. Anybody testing outside this range could be banned for: 1. 10 mins 2. Until half time 3. The rest of their life Indications of substance abuse might include: 1. Rambling on about the song and generally talking b*ll*cks before singing 2. Failing to get hold of the tune 3. Forgetting the words, ok twice 4.Playing the tenor banjo during Matty Groves and related ballads 5.Singing anything that has ever appeared ina 'Hit Parade@ Now, that should sort stuff out L in C# |

Subject: RE: BS: First failed drug test! From: kendall Date: 01 Aug 12 - 06:35 AM I can't fathom how a baseball player who breaks Babe Ruth's home run record can brag about it if he was on drugs. All he has won is self loathing. |

Subject: RE: BS: First failed drug test! From: WalkaboutsVerse Date: 01 Aug 12 - 08:13 AM I heard that, on top of random tests, all medallists are tested, with results coming through in about a months time. |

Subject: RE: BS: First failed drug test! From: Musket Date: 01 Aug 12 - 08:22 AM Rather disturbed to see how the media ran with the 16 year old Chinese swimmer who is shaving seconds off her personal best to date. Her tests are back, not in a month's time, but according to the BBC, back now and negative. The story emanates, it would seem, from a coach who doesn't understand how anybody other than an American can get gold at swimming. I noted that the "Thorpedo" said in an interview that when he was 16, he too was improving at that rate. Perhaps an apology to the young Chinese teenager who is having her shine rubbed dull by a desperate for spoiler stories media and disgruntled team coaches? |

Subject: RE: BS: First failed drug test! From: meself Date: 01 Aug 12 - 11:16 AM He's what we used to call a "sore loser" - do we still have that concept? Sore losers were rewarded with contempt and mockery, in my younger days, their behaviour often likened to what might be expected from overgrown babies. |
